'PiofiAecy t6e 956 While reporting for the Daily Planet, the Universe's greatest newspaper, I was as- signed to cover the opening of Space Station No. 561523. I donned my interplanetary space suit to head for the space station. Because of lack of parking space, I took a space taxi. Much to my surprise it was driven by the Man About Space, Ed Ketzak. To pass the short duration of time between the Earth and Venus, we scanned the best seller, Life with a Stranger. by Bonna Armstrong. On the way I passed points of inter- est: Paul Shipton's Space Kennels, the Hunsicker and Beardsley Moonshine Mine and the Stardust Space Resort owned by Edward Winchell, this week featuring Don Scott and his Frantic Three, Diane Gibson, Pat Herbert, and Harry Whittaker, playing the hot- test music this side of heaven. I arrived at the Space Station and was greeted by Admiral Richard Van Slooten, who informed me that this station was designed by Bill Drachler and built by the Bob Tice Construction Company. He also told his secretary Barbara Sutton to take me on a tour of the Space Station. My first stop was at the Station Diner, for a breakfast of Sugar Jets. Here I saw Joyce Hall and Shelva Lane as waitresses. Our next stop, out of pure neces- sity. was at the Hospital. I was here introduced to Dr. Basil Williams and his small but competent staff of Helen Kosta and Judy Manley. Next door was the ultra-modern school, with Norman Pixley, supervising principal. In my tour here I met Madonna Armstrong, Spenglish teacher (Space English); Sandra Elliott, Physical Education Director; Sandra Williamson, School Nurse; Janet Lantz, Homemaking teacher; William Hoyt, teaching Mathematics and Science respectively. Before leaving, I was allowed to sit in on a lecture on the Evils of Going Steady given by Professor David Excell, with Jerry McNulty sitting in the front seat, the chief defender of the argument. I left the school to go to Bob Utter's Space Theater in time to catch the latest news films from Earth. In these we saw Bob Parks capture the world wrestling crown. Jack Greene and Mildred Watrous win academy awards, Don Dillenbeck as volleyball King and Roger Shafer's last lap of the Indianapolis ”500. Leaving the theater on the way to Embarkation pointy we passed Lois Copeland and Florence Barrow's Beauty Salon, next door to Marcia Patton's and Jean Farnham's Haber- dashery. When I arrived at the take-off point, 1 was lucky to catch the 2:35 back to Earth. I was greeted by Sandra Lott, Chief Stewardess, and Dale Robinson, pilot. I was pleased to meet the two millionaires from Hall street, Dick Van Name and Dave Bar- rows, who had donated the money for the space station. Gary Babcock, Universal Press
