70 5 Tawau Cafwoa , If Among the outstanding convocations pre- sented to the G.H.S. student body this year were the ones given by Mr. Rub-Sam, Mr. Douglas Ferguson, and Nutchuk . Mr. Rub-Sam. sponsored by the Petroleum Industries of Indiana, presented the convoca- tion, Magic Barrel, to the student body. He produced from his magic barrel many products made of crude oil and natural gas. A n o t h e r interesting convocation was Safety on the Highways , presented by Doug- las Ferguson from the Nationwide Insurance Company. Mr. Ferguson stressed the impor- tance of safe driving by having students dem- onstrate the proper procedure of driving tech- niques. Simeon Oliver, an Eskimo better known as Nutchuk , also spoke to G.H.S. about his home state, Alaska. He told many interesting facts about Alaska's history, traditions, and people. l Nutchuk helps Marianne with an Eskimo parky. X ,,,. Sally Swope, Harriett Williams, Brenda Frit- zinger, and Ora Lou Grimes prepare toys for Y-Teen Christmas gift. ax N is P A JN! if .i A, W 43- 5 'Kgs 5' Fw E Q G.H.S. Clubs not only play an irr portant role in the school activities bu also in community projects. At Thank: giving and Christmas several of th clubs furnish families with baskets o food, clothing, and toys. This year the Y-Teen and Hi-Y or ganizations furnished baskets of foo at Thanksgiving to two families in th Greencastle vicinity. They also gav toys and clothes to the same familie during the Christmas holiday. The F.H.A. provided a Thanks giving basket to another family of th' community. At Christmas the groui obtained the names of several welfarf children and purchased clothes for them Z S i l l Hi-Y members-Kenny Best, Steve Akers, Art Hotop, and Fred Wilbur-pack Christmas basket.

' Murder, love, suspense, intrigue-all these were portrayed in Ladies i Retirement , a three-act psychological melodrama, presented by the Thespiai Society on November 3 and 4. 4 The story centered around an ex-actress Lenora Fiske and her housekeepe' Ellen Creed, who lived in a house on the Thames River in England. Affairs oi the household became complicated by the visit of Ellen's feebleminded sister' Emily and Louisa, and by the appearance of her nephew Albert Feather, g crook. The setting was made very authentic by the use of many antiques, includ- ing lamps, a pipe organ, a desk, and pictures. To complete the stage set, tht stage crew, under the direction of John Franklin, created complete with an oven. Miss Gertrude Slack, stage director was assisted by Mary Beth Frazier! student director. ' The cast included Jeannine Hammond, Ann Nanovsky, Sue Nickersoni Martha Smith, Terry Pehan, Kay Johnson, and Sandra Pearson. a huge fireplace A Terry prepares for a date. Jeannine commits the murder. l 20
