Highlight ocial Season Sweetheart candidates pose with escorts. The crowning of Queen Dixie Brattain by Hi-Y President, Bill Gould, was the highlight of the Hi- Y Sweetheart Dance. This yearly event was held February l4 in the Greencastle National Guard Ar- mory. The Queen's court was composed of three other candidates, Opal Smithers, Marilynn Brown, and Lucy Thomas. Red and white, the traditional Valentine colors, were cleverly used to carry out the theme of the dance. Couples danced to the romantic music of the Merry Makers, enjoyed the delicious refreshments, and in general, had a wonderful evening. The music's great, but please don't step on my feet! Juniors, Seniors Travel By Rickshaw Prom King and Queen, Larry Brown and Joyce Smith, were appropriately 'crowned in a Japanese rickshaw, On the night of May l5, l958, the Juniors said Sayonara -Japanese goodbye-to the Seniors with a prom in the Japanese theme. Music for dancing was furnished by Leon Vogle and his orchestra. Festive lanterns and painted silk screens set the mood in the DePauw Union Build- ing ballroom, while a bamboo teahouse and a waterfall echoed the theme on the ballroom terr- ace. Highlighting the evening was the crowning of the prom King and Queen, Larry Brown and Joyce Smith, in a Japanese rickshaw. When midnight arrived, everyone hurried to the National Guard Armory to find a one-ring circus, complete with ringmaster, a clown, and a host of entertaining acts. Between acts the Lambda Chi Combo provided very danceable music, and the waiters were kept busy serving hotdogs and other refreshments. At last break- fast was served and then the clock struck five, marking the end of another memorable Junior- Senior prom. 3 Memories are made of this. Servers peek from terrace teahouse.
