The boys reolly go for those desert boots. But who's that in the middle? ls it . . . ?? I2 .77 ,Sag Many new fads have come into their own at G.H.S. this year. Desert boots were the new thing in shoes for bovs. But white bucks, black loafers, and Spauldings were still popular. The new trend in girls' shoes was the black and white rock 'n roll saddle. The boys seemed to be tired of their crew-cuts and tried different hair styles in ducktails and flat-tops. Girls' hair cuts were evenly divided between short and long styles. Crew- neck sweaters for girls were popular, as well as for boys. Boys and girls alike were seen in bulky-knit sweaters, the boys liked bright colors and ski design, while the girls preferred white. All and all the guys and gals of G.H.S. were a well dressed group. 'NX What do these pixies have in common? Why of course their new pixie haircuts. One. The Greencastle Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America combined projects and social events to make a successful and enjoy- able year. The girls sold Christmas cards, doughnuts, and hot dogs. Initiation of new members was planned around a family pitch-in supper. A gift exchange, caroling, and games made the Christmas party an enjoyable event. Members of the chapter attended the fall district meeting at Lebanon and the spring meet- ing at Noblesville. This year the club initiated a list of standards for the gifts annually given to seniors and also a basis for selecting an out- standing senior girl. Assisting the advisor, Mrs. Compton, were Rachel Jordon, president, Carolyn Berry, vice- president, Beverly Best, secretary, Alice Livesay, treasurer, Maryland Kershner, parliamentarian, Arlene lkamire, historian, Pat Chase, editor, and Joyce Reeves, civil defense leader. The chapter was honored to have one of its members, Alice Livesay, serving as District song leader. 'lllfzen 'lllz 'wan .7 Champion Crops Judging Team: Akers, J. Arnold, A, Jones, A. Drums of Death the annual Thespian Play, directed by Thelma Stout was presented December ll, l957 in the High School auditorium. The play, filled with mystery and wit- ticisms, enjoyed the attendance ofa full house. The action started when the sheriff Naot Cooper, was called to the old Bailey mansion to investigate the disappearance of the elderly owner. However, guests and rela- tives soon arrive which only confuses the al- ready hysterical sheriff. Yet with their aid he manages to capture the phantom responsible, but he is already dead. McMillan, M, Ballard, Mrs. Lynch, Sponsor. smpp , me The '58 Minaret is the result of months of endless effort, ably directed by Mrs. Lynch and Sally Johnson, editor. The fall term began with an onrush of salesmen, all eager to handle our mar- velous product. Classes were regularly interrupted as Mr. Bowman took activity and faculty shots again this year. The staff then began its daily work of losing pictures, typewriters, and members. After hundreds of sixth hours, with a few midnight deadlines thrown in, the l958 Minaret was somehow completed. Meanwhile, Monte McCullough and his mercenary business staff canvassed the school and local merchants. The end result of many hours of amazing effort is, we hope, the best Minaret ever. This some group of senior girls also were the bas- ketball champions last year as juniors. Many girls participated in the ping pong singles and doubles tourneys. The shuf- fleboard courts provided many hours of fun for the girls. On March 28 the girls and their instructer, Mrs. Hanna, presented their annual program. This program consists of the playoff in girls' basketball to determine the intramural champions and between the halves of this game, there is a tumbling and pyr- amid exhibition. Mrs. Hanna is to be praised for her fine work in girls' sports. The G.A.A. is also a part ofthe girls' athletic education in the form of a club. This organization sponsors swimming and bowling.
