4-H Champs For many students 4-H club work con- stitutes a vital part of their summer activities. Planning recreation, completing projects, par- ticipating in the excitement of the County Fair, earning achievement awards - 4-H'ers enjoy a varied program of work and play. This year G.H.S. was well represented by girls enrolled in club work, Becky Suther- lin, Jean Butts, Carolyn Flint, Velda Stwalley, and Marilyn Mann competed in the district judging Contest after winning locally. In addition, Marilyn, Velda, and Carolyn parti- cipated in state-wide competition. Patty Steele, Beverly Best, and Sue Caspar also made good showing with their demonstrations while Nancy Flint was a finalist in the County Dress Revue. For her Forestry exhibit, Maxine Herriott was awarded a State Fair entry, and Marilyn Mann received similar entries in Food Preservation and Safety. Junior winners included Mary Wright, Joyce Reeves, Marcia Sims, Ora Grimes, Carol Thorlton, Candy Balay, and Carol Blue. Many of these 4-H'ers as well as other students interested in home economics, are active in the Future Homemakers' organi- zation. These girls aim to prepare themselves for a future as homemakers.
