Its really my fault the plgSklf1 season turned out the way it dld you see I just had too much happemng to me Im trulv sorry and I apologx e for this over sight on my part No one behexes me but Ive sure been up there on the hoops and haye given that basketball a shove through the circle mor times tnan the Colds ln phyS1CS Ive sohed E mc and Nir ElllStClIl reports Im the only flger Cub either in or out of captlvlty to put lns I'CI'ltlXltN theory in an understandable form Iye learned ancient IllStOl'y lnvestlgated the republlcans and the democrats and m sp te f Miss Bartley s best eftorts Latin is still Greek to me These are a few of the thlngs I can tell you about there are many more of these accomphshments But IIS the lmportant things I remember now as the equmovc change ends thls chool year of years the year I went through GHS Its a little hard to say the thlngs that really matter Yet they must be said for Ive come to know CHS as a place where every body comes up through the grades thls builds frlendshxps GHS offers you a chance to know your IlClgIlb0I'S this cuts down in tolerance which plagues later hfe GHS fosters and encourages a discussion of confhctmg thoughts this someday may prevent thoughts of conflict CHS allows all to worship a they please thlS rules out the pOSSlblIlly of the cry Please may we worship? UBI IGNIS EST?-There were many times when we wondered how the Romans ever rlid it. Their Latin was never like ours, or vice versa-as the case may be. CHEMISTRY-H20 minus one. We have achieved the title of most destructive. CASH OR CHARGE?-From this general business class come the future business men and women. COM0' ESTA' USTED-The Spaniards must have been brave souls to have survived their language. AGRICULTURE-We always, wonder if these boys leaming the fundamentals of good farming ever come up with an answer to whether the chicken or egg came first. EQUALS S A S-After a year of geometry we all felt like Pythagorus. JUST LOOKIN' FOR THE FACTS MAM-The library can well he termed the laboratory of the entire school, for it is the knowledge center of GHS. CONSTITUTIONS A N D T R E A TIE S-W h o knows-maybe one of us will become president some day as a direct result of our civics study. 2534512 fx 9.49 X S 'YT 9 C3 B o ig FH il t.t fbeaelapa 364114 8 fm L ' , Q v WHAT DO I DO NOW? --ln his role as counselor, Mr. Skelton helps the boys make decisions regard- ing their school problems. WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK--These boys learn to transform raw materials into usable articles. MAY I HELP YOU?-Distributixc occupation class members spend half of their time in class and half on the job is a real situation. T VERSUS T. Among the clatter of dishes and the hum of sewing machines, future housewives are trained. A HELPING HAND-Miss Daggy returned the second semester to her post as girls' counselor after spending a semester in France. There's assistance from this office-all free just for the asking. DEBIT OR CREDITAA bank book can be most baffling .... and particulary so with bookkeeping students. Yet where would we be without the training? THE QUESTION IS TO HAVE A JOB FOR CREDIT-By an approved on-the jobstraining pro- gram, students are taught occupational theory in class sessions and then put that knowledge to work in an actual job situation. TYPING-asdfghjkl-Some of us learned, but some of us still use the Columbus system of pecking and then discovering. FROGS, WORMS, AND FOHNIELDEl-IlDEffSoph- omores spend many hours studying the action of amoeba, . . . and for weekly tests. ii A l , 'AL ' HEY I ,K X ll , L., .l fc fn I I 7 N i ' A ,no f '. f . A. life-line of the school, Norman McCammon directs the activities at CHS. A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College, Mr. McCammon received his master's degree from Indiana University. From a class room teacher of typing and commercial subjects, the boss man was principal in Owensville before coming to the Tiger Cub school five years ago. Although his duties as prin- cipal are exacting, Mr. McCammon on a so-called bus man's holiday takes time out to attend all school functions, makes time for participation in civic activities, and still manages the time to practice his teaching methods on his small fry, Timmie, 5 and Ka-:en Annie, 8. fze ancf ffze aacuflq Memdmd GENE AKERS MINNIE NIAE BARTLEY WILLIANI BISHOP Chemigtry, agriculture, FFA English Latin Latin club English history seventh sponsgr, senior class sponsor sponsor YTeens Junior class grade sponsor convocations YETTA COLSTON DOROTHY COMPTON 'VIARGARET CURD General Science, health, Home Economics, FHA spon- Art Art club sponsor Junior Red Cross sponsor, sor, junior class head sponsor eighth grade sponsor uicfe W4 1410119 7f12wa9fz '7fzeia '7e ELIZABETH DAGCY Senior High counselor, Eng- lish, student council sponsor THOMAS GOLDSBERRY Physical education, h e alt h and safety, athletic director, basketball and baseball and coach, athletics committee MARIAN DRYDEN Junior High counselor, English REESE HAMMOND Junior High counselor, geog- raphy, spelling, campaigns committee ANNA EVANS Senior High c 0 u n s el o r, English HAZEL HAN NA Physical education, C A A sponsor, freshman c l a s s sponsor +4 HAROLD HARDNIAN NEVEE HARNEY HERNDON IRWIN English an Mathematics, seventh grade urer freshman basketball sponsor mcfa-ace am! eauade ' .744 Una DON MARKETTO Music, band and choir director MADONNA 0,1-IAIR Mathematics. eighth grade sponsor, scholarship com- mittee .IOHN MCCULLOUCH Industrial Arts, seventh grade sponsor JEAN PROCASKEY English. speech, Minaret and Inkpot adviser, senior class sponsor v mml iff' School accountant, secretary Sf-eff-tary to the principal . Scores, however, hardly tell of the growth of the team during those early fall months of 53. GREENCASTLE 14. MITCHELL 6 the Cubs opened their '53 campaign with a good showing, beating lVlitchell's Blue Jackets 14--6. Don Shuee and Chuck Saathoff both scored TD's for Greencastle, and Chuck Pingleton and Dorwin Duncan got the extra tries to round out scoring. GREENCASTLE 0, BLOOMINCTON 33 Greencastle's Tiger Cubs were outclassed all the way in the contest. Though the Cubs didn't give up until the final gun, the Univees won 33-0. GREENCASTLE 6, PLAINFIELD 19 The Tiger Cubs did well in every department ex- cept that of scoring as the spuad dropped this hard fought contest to the Quakers of Plainfield, 19-6. The Cubs tallied more yards gained by rushing and passing and had thirteen first downs to four for the Quakers. Yet, two passes intercepted by the Quaker crew swept the game for the grasp of the Tigers. GREENCASTLE 21, MARTINSVILLE 25 With the ball game almost wrapped up, the Cubs made two costly fumbles and dropped the game to the Maltinsville Artesions. Both of the fumbles were turned into touchdowns by the Martinsville team to make it a 25-21 victory. GltlilLhCA5Tl.,li 12, DELPHI 14 Failure to register extra points lost this game for the Cubs. After getting off to a bad start, the Tiger Cubs fought back into the lead 12-T, but lost when the Qricles scored with a lone minute to go. CREIQNCASTLE 0, LEBANUN 19 Showing more line power than the Cubs could muster to hold, the Lebanon Tigers routed the Cubs 19-0. GREISNCASTLE 19, GREENFIELD 20 Again the lack of the point after the TD lost the game for the Cubs. Trailing all through the game, the locals got within one point, but time ran out and it was a 20-19 heart-break. The Cubs lost the opening game to Mitchell in a 58-54 battle with the four point difference being made at the free throw line as Mitchell hit 16 to the Cubs' 12. V In the first home game the Cubs lost to Plainfield 52-49, and in the third try Washington's Hatchet's defeated GHS by 61-45. With the Martinsville game, the Cubs turned the tide, and the quarter stops were 15-12, 27-31, 44-37 and 53-50. The Cubs had an easy time disposing of Atticais Red Ramblers 59-47. However, a tall, fast Athenian net squad defeated the Cubs 70-53. Crawfords- ville had control of the tilt all the way. Lebanon defeated the Cubs in a thriller on the Lebanon home court, 49-48. Sheridan defeated the Cubs 52-50 in an overtime thriller, but this was followed by a traditional Brazil-Greencastle tilt with the Cubs Winning 54-51. Sullivanis Golden Arrows edged the Tiger Cubs 46-45 in a ragged battle staged in the CHS ball house, and after moving over to Terre Haute the Cubs were soundly trounced by Garfield, 78- 64. But with a change of pace the Goldsberry crew made a song of the return Brazil engage- ment, defeating Babe Wheeleris Red Devils by a 60-44 tune. Rockville's Rox came to Greencastle in hopes of upsetting the Cubs but went home on the short end of a 58-54 score, and the season's final game found the GHS squad on the losing side of a 71-61 score with Broadripple of Indianapolis. 54 .4 KH f '7Tf .....i L, .- ? ih-in Ewan Sifelined ffm encode!
