from my thrlvmg business as lnterlor decora tor and go back to mv dear old hometown of Greencastle to see some of my former classmates Immedratelv I secured plane reserv atlons for the following day March 10 1966 Dear Dxary Imagine my surprlse when I dlscovered my pllot to be Charlie Shank' He helped build the Greencastle Airport so Robert Brant now Presldent of the Umted States gave hlm a speclal pilot s hcense Whlle talkmg to lum I discovered that Marian Sampson had secured the post as the Presldent s secretary March 11 1966 Dear Dlary My lxlp was a pleasant one On the same plane was Mrs Thelma Kuhn Strawberry Orange Mulberry gay dlvolcee who has just wrxtten a book on French verbs As I was reading ln the Greencastle Tlmes run by Arthur Superman Kennedy who lS now down to 105 pounds and still gomg strong an artlcle wrltten by Dlck Supe Snyder the rovmg reporter that Nelhe Long had just divorced the King of Hubba Hubba for the thnteenth txm I was shocked to look up and see Dr Charles Barkdoll Presldent of Princeton UIIIYPTSILY Whlle we were chatting the plane landed and I was forced to bld a sad adleu Runmng down the lamp I bumped Into Guy Benedict and Bud Fltz who were leavlng for New York to meet thelr brldcs They haven t changed One of the Zarger Taxl Cabs too into town where I lmmedlately proceeded to the Betty Sollenberger Beauty Parlor for repalrs Charles Ebersole IS now workmg for Betty and has orlglnated a hair style of h1s own Whlle there I saw Dan Magmnls who came ln to have hls permanent touched up Afterward as I was going up the street to send a telegram home I met the former Betty Lohman and Vera Grosh stxll lnseparable Vera IS now part time manager of Newberry s 5 and 10 and Betty teaches muslc after her house work IS done La Rue Monn and Darls Snowberger were running down the street leadlng an amateur basketball team They had tlme for only a brlef Hello' When I arrlved at the bus depot now run by Dlck Henry and Jaret Talhelm Henry as a combmatlon Dry Cleaner Bus Depot and What Have You I found Ed Shlndle readlng comlc books and paying scant heed to Charles Barnhart s brllllant sales talk on The Reasons Most People Work' After I had given Isabelle Rice lthe telegraph operatorl my message I left for my hotel Enroute I ran Into the Honorable Robert Gaddls burgesl of Greencastle who mvlted me to a llttle get together he was having I accepted March 12 1966 Dear Diary Thls evening I attended the banquet at the Hotel Peck run by Wllllam Peck wealthy man about town Attendmg were such celebrltles as Frank Bittner Esqulre noted chemist Robert Fltz famous Olympic star Shlrley Snyder a second Florence Nightingale poet laureate Helen Smlth and champlon shorthand wrlter Helen Shlmer Our entertainment was furnlshed by the two Moron sisters Jack Cooper Moron and Erma College Moron accompanled by Ruby McFadden and her maglc violin The announcements were made by bellboy James Lesher March 13 1966 Dear Dlary This mornmg was verv beautlful so I decided to take a walk Needing some refreshment I block Just as I was leavmg Bob Elhott proprletol of the Shady Grove General Store came in Outslde a large streamlxned truck with Mlller s Garbage Collection Service prlnted on lt caught my eye Thls P M I vlslted my old Alma Mater and discovered that Llbby Mlller and Leona Parmer were two of the taskmasters there After leavmg the school I attended the meeting of the Baby Sltters Soclety made up of Gladys Gelwlcks Almeta Hlll Dorls Mowen Betty Zelgler Betty Ruth Snyder Jane Snider and Ruth Reeder r n 14 1966 :Iga1?D1ary I spent a lovely mornmg at the Hampton Farm where Gerald Warren was bulldlng a new barn Carl has also employed Gall Starhper as hrs cook and has started a brlgade of mrlkmalds composed of Genevleve Hykes Marle Hlssong Dorothy Shew and Ruby Zeger I took my leave of mv fair home town thls afternoon I was accompamed to the plane by the Reverend Lloyd lSonnyu Rowe who has Just been ordamed
