1-Y The purpose of the Hi Y Club is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character This organization, one of the finest in the school, got off to a very late start and only a few meetings have been held Jack Moseley is president, and the other officers are Vester Lenzen, Bob Sutherlin, and Bob Knauer The senior members of this organization include Bill Lockwood, Bob Flint, John Ross, James Bamberger, James Anderson, Bob Williams, Gene McClintock, Bob Knauer, Gene Harlan, and Gordon Monnett Mr McClure is the very able sponsor of this fine group of boys and is well liked by all of them The club is looking forward to a larger group and fuller program next year VICTORY CORPS The Victory Corps of Greencastle High School was organized on November 25, 1942 The purpose of this organization is to help out on the home front, and to better the community by rendering all services possible The Victory Corps is divided into six groups The General Membership Division, The Sea Service Division, The Land Service Division, The Air Service Division, The Community Service Division, and The Production Service Division This organization has sponsored several convocation programs this year Also a program of military drill has been set up for the Junior and senior boys who will enter the armed forces in the near future The membership of the Victory Corps ers in the high school OFFICERS JIM BAMBERGER President JIM ZEIS Vice President JEAN FELD Secretary T easurer 26 is equal to about one-half of the total school enrollment. .Qenior ffau pfay ll H The Senior Class of 1943 selected for their play Sky Road, thrilling drama in three acts, written by Richard Nusbaum It was di rected by Miss Charleen Seibel, A DePauw speech major, and was under the supervision of Mrs Margaret May Forster The play was staged in the high school auditorium on the night of November 18 19142 The play was a great success and a very large crowd attended Every member of the cast did his very best to see that the production went off smoothly The cast follows Bill Jones Lucky Parker Midge Saunders Mabel Clark Connie Bicknell Sue Lamb Carrie Evans Sally Barton Buddie Walters Ann Rogers Andy Saunders Thompson Miss Fielding Mac MacFar1and Loudspeaker Stage managers Bob Knauer Noleen Mars Betty Handy Rosalie Hutcheson Ellen Ferguson Eileen Mahoney Judy Friend Betty Lee Gordon Monnett Jacqueline Monnett Bill Lockwood James Reasor Mary Louise Brown Jimmy Bamberger Gene Harlan Zeke' McClintock, Jerry Grimes and Gene Har 25 I a , . Kane! capeffa Our senior class certainly has its share of talented music students, both in vocal and the instrumental fields Mary Lou Scott has been soloist with the A Cappella Choir several times in the selection HSummertime Mary Lou also had a solo part in the op eretta Carol Cash and Mary Lou Brown have been in the choir for two years while Betty Lee and Jimmy Proffit are newer additions this year Jean Eitelyorge and Eileen Mahoney have worked on the technical side as well as the musical side of choir work Jean, secretary of the group, was in charge of properties for the operetta and Eileen did some specialty dances in a patriotic program with the choir Bill Lockwood, president of the choir, has had a solo part in the operetta for the last two years and was soloist when In the band, John Ross has played first choir French horn for two years and twice won second division in a State Contest He also played horn this year in the DePauw orchestra Jim Proffit has played first cornet two years in the band Bill Lockwood, president of the band, won for two years first division on oboe in the state contest and he has also played first oboe in the DePauw University Symphony Robert Pierson, first bass in the band, was soloist with the band on piano and won first division in State Con test on piano Bob Strain has played first baritone for three years and has been a contest winner for the last two years Bill Sweeney, last but not least, has been play ing trombone for three years and last summer was soloist with the band 27 . ll the choir presented nThe Seven Last Words of Christn for Easter.
