We hope that in glancing at its pages you will remember the time spent in G. H. S. and the peo- ple met here. In this book we have tried to capture some of the typical scenes and routines: days crammed full of exams, labs, play rehearsals, gab sessions, laughter in the halls, lunchtime in the main room, anxiety over report cards, practices in the gym, good- natured teasing and joking, lively discussions at class meetings, teachers trying fusual- ly in vainj to keep order in the auditorium study hall, the halls blocked with talking twosomes, the assembly programs, and the rooting and cheering at our athletic events. Memories are precious things, the sound of happy voices, the spirit of good sports, the molding of our ideals and aspirations- -all compose school life. The 1956 Conococheague is yours. You have made it, we have preserved it through word and picture. 3 9 . lux fl Huy? . . . 5.8 ,rf 6'--T-e-5 RK4. -ts ' x THE FACULTY-THEY DIRECT US . . --3 Xa TO GRADUATION ,T 5. A TO CLASSES .. Not enough seats, boys standing, each one trying to talk. . .president demanding cooperation. The new subjects brought thrilling moments to us: French, shorthand, geometry, chemistry, and typing. The thrill of voting for class rings. . .three were popular, but one got the majority vote first time. Remember the three votes to choose our class colors, Black and white? Black and white pennants have the same emblem as our class rings, Four styles of Black and White hats fPeter Pan, Sailor, Beanie, and Sport Cary adorn the heads of our lads and lasses. We're the first class, also, to wear class jackets - black corduroy with white knit cuffs and collars, Our bazaar. . . Saturday afternoon we decorated, Saturday night, what a night! . . .built up the class treasury while we sold 3150. 00 of articles contributed. Oh's and Ah's were heard when door-prizes were unwrapped. Great excitement prevailed over the Junior Play. First the choice of a play, THE LITTLE DOG LAUGH - ED, then the cast, the nights and days of practice, selling tickets, collecting propertiesg and marking charts, Stage fright, strong voices, attractive costumes, sticky makeup. . . On October 7, 1956, the formal installation of officers and members was held. This was an impressive, spirit ual service in which the members took their oaths. The President, Jean Grosh, received hers from our Supervising Principal, Mr. Martz, In turn, Jean gave a lighted candle to each office holder as he or she assumed his or her duties, Our activities have been: sewing as guides for new studentsg welcoming teachers by presenting them with flowers, setting up information desk for visitors: purchasing a pencil dispenser, sponsoring a Hi-Way Safety Cam- paign and a 3H fl-lic, Hike, and I-Iugj Prevention Dance. Profits from selling candy and ice cream are used to fur- ther Council work. The Council was active and worked hard to promote its activities, along with the adoption of its Constitution We- hope to have lived up to our duties, and we are confident that future Councils will always put the welfare of the school and student body first in its goals.
