I, I, High-lights of our high-times -------------- We began our Freshman year the right way--with parties--and more parties! The first one was given in our honor by the Sophomore class in September. We had a great time playing Hchalk the cornern. Our first official class party was held on October 24, it was invitational scavenger hunt. At Christmas time we held another get-together in the gym and learned that our teachers were human, too. That year we made a little money by having bakery sales, presided over, by our sponsor, Miss Eunice Deffenbaugh. During basketball season we raffled cakes and made a small sum of money. With the money we made we had a party which was invitational. Miss Powell, our class sponsor, helped us in making all of our parties a big success. Hurray! We're upper-classmen! Our very first Junior party was a thriller. Mary and Darlene made bar-b-cues for refreshments which all of us hesitated in eating. In March we chose our play, HWe Shook The Family Tree,H and started learning our lines as soon as the books came. After much coaxing and pushing by our director, Miss Pulaski, we were finally ready for the big night. It was successful even though it took lots of work. Still, we'll never forget the fun we had at practice! The next big event was the Junior-Senior banquet. We'll never forget the letter-writing and running around this involved. It was held in the French room of the Hotel Jefferson in Peoria. The little dispute over transportation was forgotten as we bounced along in the bus. Besides, who was thinking of the ride when our minds were still of HFrancisH which we sat at the Madison theater. The last day of school brought more fun. This was the time our class had a picnic at the Mackinaw. Some Sophomores were invited and we really made a day of it, ending with rowing in the Pekin park lake. Somehow our Senior year didn't get started off with a party! We didn't have an opportunity to have one until December. By this time we had several dollars in class dues. With this, we went to the show and had a big time. We came back to the gym and the girls made chili. It was supposed to be chili anyway. Finally the time came for planning Senior skip day! Were we thrilled! We decided to go to Chicago. We planned to leave on the evening of the 17th of May and to return on the 19th. We are looking forward to this as one of the biggest events in our high school career. Baccalaureate---May 20. Yippee!! Will wefhave our robes? Will they fit us?? Will we stumble? Will our candles stay in? Who knows! Basketball The Green Valley Hornets opened the 1950-'51 season with 6 lettermen returning from last year. Namely, Frank Scott, Bill Larimore, John Thomas, Bing Crosby, Paul Sloter, and Scoop Waymire. Larry Wheat, a transfer from Delavan, became eligible the second semester. In the dedication game of the new gym, Green Valley was beaten in a close game. Many of the games we lost were by slim margins. D ' In the county tournament held at Pekin, the Hornets beat Armington and then fell to Deer Creek-Mackinaw, the eventual champions. The district tournament was held at Green Valley for the first time with the hosts losing our final game of the season to Hopedale by 2 points.
