SENIOR CLASS HISTOR Y On September the fifth, nineteen hundred and forty-four, twenty-two freshmen entered Green Valley High School. The class officers this first year were Barbara Christie, president, Tom Watts, vice-president and John Goeken, secretary-treasurer. During this first year of school Henry Binkle and Everett Juhl moved away: Gladys Nannen dropped out due to personal illness. Jim Ary was appointed to represent our class in the Student Council this year. The sophomore year began with fewer pupils in the class. Paul Mount and Russell Morris did not return: then during the year,' we lost Hazel Griffin and Tom Watts. Gladys came bak and remained until the end of the year. Ray Winner became one of our number at the start of our sophomore year and has proved a valuable member. Jim Ary, John Goeken, and Orrie Woodruff were elected to head and control our class business and pro- cedures, as president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer. The junior year found us with four less students. Barbara Christie, who had played the piano for the Glee Clubs' and at graduation the year before, moved to Pekin. Neil Coleman also did not return: his parents and he moved to a new ministerial charge. Gladys Nannen and Suzanna Shay did not return'either. . The class officers were Orrie Woodruff, president: Ray Winner, vice-president: and this year due to an increase in financial affairs we elected John Goeken as Secretary and Marvin Dean as treasurer. We sold Christrnas cards and had a play so as to raise funds for the junior-senior ban- quet, which was held in Morton, after which we attended a movie in Peoria. The last year, our senior year, began with only one less student, Donna Woodward. Piloting our class this year were Orrie Woodruff, president: Delbert Ripper, vice- president, Ray Winner, secretary: and John Goeken, treasurer. In order to raise money for our Senior Class Fund we had another play during the first semester. Ray Winner, Russell Crosby, Arletta Schlyer and Jim Ary were all members of the Student Council this year: Russell was president, Jim, vice-president, Ray secretary, and Arletta was treasurer. So when graduation time came on May 27, our class had diminished from twenty- two freshmen to eleven seniors who for the last time walked across the stage of the Green Valley High School to receive their diplomasand make their bid in life thereafter.
