Images What has 36 legs, 18 skirts and one voice? Images, of course. This music group is an advanced and highly selec- tive group of girls. They perform ap- proximately 30 concerts in, around, and anywhere near GMHS during the school year. Images performed at the U.N.C. Jazz Festival and had 10 con- certs within a three week period for the Christmas holidays, to name just a few. Sue Cielens, senior, comments, Im- ages is a good place to gain performin experience and expand talents. Su also says that Images is a very clos group and they work well together. mages does a variety of songs. They sing jazz, which also includes choreog- raphy, madrigals, and show tunes. This year, as in the past, Images did Valo- grams for Valentinets Day. Once in a while they will even sing with Vocal Minority. Throughout the year, empha- sis was on advanced choral reading and advanced vocal techniques. When asked why she wanted to join Images, Anita Mehnert, sophomore, said, I love to perform and sing. Im- ages helps expand my musical knowl- edge. Studying by themselves Julie Johnson and Heather Hughes share a joke. Fruitcakes? This year, Vocal Minority was more than super, they were super- heroes. The group of boys were dressed as their favorite freedom- fighters and were ready to sing their way to justice. Singing any- thing from satire and parody to barber-shop with vocal jazz thrown in, these guys have a pow- er of their own. There were 22 members the first semester with an increase of up to 30 new mem- bers the next. The popularity? Vocal Minority is an outra- geous group. Davin McDill, sen- ior, claims it's because everyone gets along. They learn how to sing. Everyone's crazy and really outgoing. Nobody should miss an opportunity like this, he also adds. Vocal Minority sings and dances and can do both at the same time. Many members are in Shadows and other school related music groups but stick with Vocal Minority for both the experience and fun. The group is becoming one of the most asked for groups to perform in both school and public concerts. An audition is not required to join this group, but a good voice, musical back- ground and most important, a sense of humor are essential.
