.Si l I INDUSTRIAL AR'l S DEPART MENTS The Commerclal Art class IS one of general utxllty The students are requested to desxgn posters and show cards advertnslng actxvltles of other de partments Members of the class entered the clty poster ontest tor Better Homes Week Ralph Meyer won frrst pr17e and Robert Spears yn on second pr11e The department has developed bv leaps and bounds due to the nevy cqunp ment mstalled last fall The Manual Trammg department of the hugh school has been progressmg raptdly In former years only a few people vsere able to take thts elass because of the lack of space A new shop has been provlded vuth more and better equtpment thls enables the students to turn out a better qualtty of work floor lamps and cedar chests head the 11st There are about seventy flve takmg the eourse th1s year yy hen here to fore only about thtrty could be accommodated ln thus class The fxrst glrls Manual Tramlng class was started thls year wxth a enrollment of fourteen The flrst slx weeks was spent tn planlng sawmg and malemg Jomts Then the glrls started on mdnldual projeets meludmg bread boards taborets book ends and foot stools After these smaller artlcles were ftnnshed the grrls made desles lxbrary tables cedar chests and tea wagons Toward the end of the year l1the work hand carvmg and Inlay formed a large part of the work Iugr Mernty fue I I .
