Under the direction of Miss Helen Hinchman the girls in sewing class are taught how to make their own clothing. The beginners make skirts or jump- ers and the more advanced pu- pils make two piece dresses and whatever else they desire. The students learn how to re- set sleeves or alter a dress. The tuture homemaker will have a wardrobe of the latest style. Also in cooking class the girls learn how to set a table and cook a meal fit for a king. This is made possible under the di- rection ot Miss Marguerite Hinchman. Setting a table in an attractive manner makes for better home relations. In order to manage a home, a knowl- edge of foods and their prepar- ation is necessary as well as knowing how to keep a house in good condition. Homes in the future will be Well kept due to the efforts of the Home Eco- nomics Department. '1 'T

All students are required to take Physi- cal Education twice a week unless they are exempted from gymnastic activities due to physical handicaps. Miss Alice Rutledge and a newcomer to the I. H. S. faculty, Miss Ianet Ullery, instruct the girls' gym classes. The first girls' activity this year was a Volleyball tournament. Later the girls were train- ed in calisthenics. Still later in the year basketball Was played. Tennis, bad- minton, and dancing were also taught. Coaches Clark Shaffer, Peter Fee, Mike Garbinski and Paul Abele are the directors of the boys' Physical Educa- tion Department. The coaches first in- structed the boys in marching and drill- ing. Later came calisthenics and relay races. Then during basketball season basketball teams Were selected. These activities plus races, volleyball, tum- bling and gymnastics make up the year-around activities in the Physical Education Department.
