Here We see various scenes: a class of students listening to a record- ing of Debussyg or a boy, with brush in hand, standing before an easelg or a group of girls busily engaged in arranging the furniture in a model homey or perhaps an amateur dramatization of the sleep-Walking scene from Macbeth Under the direction of Miss Iune Hoffman, many Works of art are turned out in such mediums as oils, water color, pastel, or clay. Throughout the year, it is the art department that designs the posters for the many school dances and skating parties. Classes in harmony and music appreciation are taught by Charles Aikey. Here, those especially interested in music learn ix CHARLES I. Aixrv Music to compose and to discern good music from the less classical. And we hope everyone gets a part in that play. JUN MARGARET M. EVANS MARGARET GASTMAN IDA HAWMAN Chairman Problems ol Democracy, American History American History English, History ALLETHA STANDISH World History, Social Problems COLBERT W. VARNER American History HISTORY DEPARTMENT Tom Fry explains the work of the History Department. Hello, Radio Listeners: History is in the making, has been made, and always will be made as long as man lives. From the dawn of time man has striven to keep records of his fellow men either in writ- ing or by word of tongue. Our courses in Ancient, Me- dieval, American History, and Problems of Democracy cover all stages of World develop- ment. Ancient History brings us from the time of Egyptians to the end of the Roman Empire. Medieval History combined with Modern History presents a record of events to the pres- ent. It deals chiefly with the formation of Europe into sepa- rate countries, and man's struggle to follow the demo- cratic way of life. American History and Problems of Dem- ocracy deal chiefly with the growth of our own country and sister republics. History is indeed a written record of man's thoughts and feelings. Thank you, Tom. 24 Varner makes the world go round!
