Si-rowsns HALPH Witter.: Biology, Physiology, Vocational Physics, Health, Physiography Chemistry Louisa S. KUNKLE Chemistry Science sends a representative to our studio. Here he is. Hello, Radio Audience: Science offers the student many revealing experiments. These experiments may deal with the mixing of substances or discovering the mechanical advantage, efficiency or horse power of a machine. These are only a few of the experiments that science has dealt with. Many more prob- lems are Waiting to be solved. Who is to solve them? You, the future scientists of the world. Science is probably one of the most fascinating of sub- jects. lt lends interest to those of curious and observing minds. For example, let us look at the experiment that deals with the heating of mercuric oxide to obtain mercury. commonly known as quick silver. Here, indeed, is an ex- periment of interest to students of science. Sounds like a good course to me. We enjoyed your report, and invite you back again. 23

Beverly Frye tells us about their activities Good Morning, Listeners: The commands which you hear in the background probably give you the idea that the scene is an army camp where a top-sergeant is issuing orders to a company ot rookies. But it happens to be one ot the gym teachers limber- ing up a class of muscle-bound pupils. To accommodate the high school's active pupils and to provide an outlet for their pent-up energy, basketball. volleyball, and other forms of exercise are included in the course. The problem is how to achieve and keep the sound body that must stand behind this vitality. This is the problem facing the other hall ot the health department. Therefore, the high school's health instructors give their students vital facts concerning personal hygiene. So you see, folks, I. H. S. prepares tor defense in more ways than one. 22 PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Spring is here! Maybe it's heart trouble!

JUN MARGARET M. EVANS MARGARET GASTMAN IDA HAWMAN Chairman Problems ol Democracy, American History American History English, History ALLETHA STANDISH World History, Social Problems COLBERT W. VARNER American History HISTORY DEPARTMENT Tom Fry explains the work of the History Department. Hello, Radio Listeners: History is in the making, has been made, and always will be made as long as man lives. From the dawn of time man has striven to keep records of his fellow men either in writ- ing or by word of tongue. Our courses in Ancient, Me- dieval, American History, and Problems of Democracy cover all stages of World develop- ment. Ancient History brings us from the time of Egyptians to the end of the Roman Empire. Medieval History combined with Modern History presents a record of events to the pres- ent. It deals chiefly with the formation of Europe into sepa- rate countries, and man's struggle to follow the demo- cratic way of life. American History and Problems of Dem- ocracy deal chiefly with the growth of our own country and sister republics. History is indeed a written record of man's thoughts and feelings. Thank you, Tom. 24 Varner makes the world go round!
