Apprecuatlon of the Fme Arts Rome wasnt bu1lt 1n a day nor c1n the apprec1at1on of f1ne arts be dex eloped 1n '1 short t1me L1ke some strange foods only a l1ttle blt should be taken at once and IH the course of t1me they vull be enjoyed Most people cannot be expected to apprec1ate and understand grand opera modern1st1c p1ctures or the class1cs 1n l1terature and drama the f1rst t1me but after see1ng or hear1ng these more than once each txme they are enjoyed more unt1l a long1ng for these fme thlngs 1n l1fe IS 1nst1lled 1n the m1nd Chrldren wlth talented parents or those who haxe a deslre for the h1gher thlngs IH l1fe haxe a qreater chance to be appreclatlxe of the fm arts They have been educated to th1s Other people haxe to take these thlngs slovx ly They have to study a th1ng to appreclate lt There IS a gradually d1m1n1sh1ng lack of apprec1at1on of the f1ne arts 1n th1s coun try Too many people are just l1x1ng wxthout gett1ng the flner th1ngs from l1fe In all the good l1terature IU thns world surely there IS enough to offer xar1ety for d1fferent people There are many forms of hterature Some people enjoy heavy read1ng such as Shakespeare and the CIBSSICS whlle other people del1ght 1n llght f1ct1on Each k1nd of read1ng has 1ts place There IS a book for every g1rl and boy every man and woman To develop an apprec1at1on of paxntmg we select the best p1ctures and study them trymg to get out of them just what the artlst trled to portray Some people l1ke modern1st1c plctures and others enjoy the work of the Old Masters Enjoyment of arch1tecture too may be acqulred The rad1o has done much to further the apprec1at1on of mus1c Dur 1ng 1ts season the Metropolltan Opera Company br1ngs a well known opera ox er the a1r ex ery week Some of the most d1st1ngu1shed bands and symphon1c orchestras have been heard over the rad1o They offer the h1ghest class of mus1c to be heard anywhere Also to help the ad vancement of mus1c 1n the World many of the greatest forelgn operas have been translated 1nto our language for the benef1t of the Amencan people The frwolous mus1c qu1ckly passes out of ex1stence but the mus1c from the old masters w1ll l1xe forever Drama IS one of the most dehghtful arts It IS presented 111 so many d1fferent vtays plays pageants operettas tableaux and others Most people enjoy one of these forms of drama To help adv ance drama and brxng about a greater apprec1at1on of It many of the great classlcs have been made 1nto motlon plctures and produced on the screen ln thls manner the better grade of drama IS brought before a class of people that othervxlse vtould nex er be 1nte1ested or get a chance to enjoy the best The stage and screen present excellent actors and actresses vxho help to carry the story of a play across to the aud1ence There IS such a great xarlety of drama 1n the world today that there IS a type for every person to enjoy Fme nts h me been so ICX0lLll'1OTl1Z6d 1nd extended to such 1 marked degree 1n thls vx orld that It lb dlmost 1mpObSlblQ to go through hfe xuthout haung an apprecntlon of at least one of the major arts Helen Stlllvt 'agon , , Q . . . . . w , C V . . . . .
