ABANDONED Around a curve in the path where I love to stroll An old abandoned mine in the hillside steep ls mud-encrusted, a humble and dusty heap Of rotting timbers where Time has taken toll. 7 That weather-worn frame hides a blind and Widening hole That winds below the hill and drops down deep Into a tomb where man once toiled to reap For his fellowmen, earth,s hidden harvest of coal. -Claudia Margolis. .1.:f.,, 4' ,A..:j?ati-.:wnn.::,::,,-1-nt' ' Qrjfqru:-.faxfllf 'Qi' gi ' ' :.A' I' ' 5 .- '-, -' gh- 5 1 Nfizli if A ' I ' l . AT WORK I look at our mines and see The miners prepare for work, I think they are the bravest men, No danger do they shirk. A cave-in they do not fear, Nor a Hooded mine in the least, Though a demon may lurk inside Like a huge and unchained beast. The miners, little lights Cast off a puny glow Through the darkness that engulfs In the catacombs below. They lie upon their backs And dig in the dripping veing Their muscles knot and cramp Like a rheumatic pain. So now when you're cozy and warm While the cold wind blows outside, Remember they dug the coal That in comfort you may abide. -Howard Potthoff. emit?-'4'r:sfL f r-j 11 2: -'P'-www-14' J '1'-'E ' I N-c: 'rf:!9:A2-'K'-rviwrwfi ','t:'r-.-1 6711 fffgo-:'i,':-3 :.r P2971 oxyyzugqnzzawvrgh-mu 1:1441-gr-has-ewyv-2. rg-1,1-I ' ' J '- , ,. v 3 1 a THE SALVATION ARMY Feeble men, old men, disgusted men, Black men, and White men, You go to the Salvation Army With downcast eyes over a hopeless future. You care not what becomes of you, For you live in the dark. Inside the walls you go. You are taught the teachings of Cod. You listen, restless at first, but become Attentive followers of the Words of God. The future is made clearer to you. You find it is never too late to begin. A ray of light is seen, You grope your way to it. The ray grows brighter and brighter. At last, you are in the open once more, Ready to begin again! You go forth to seek a goal. You go forth to win back your name, No more you are Feeble men, disgusted men, drooping men, but The lambs of Cod, with the teachings of The Salvation Army for your foundation. -Michael Curry. -i-x1vLQ-'4':::i1fHZ'- :LT '-'-4'-1-H-'m' 4-fe 4-w ' Z mc: 915-A:.'w4-'gt--7-vfg-,fgr-...-vgf.qw4gg:g4-re,-:-pe :rl g:,,....,:.-,.f.,H.,w,4,..,,.,,,,.-, ' ' ,,, . , ,.
