AT WORK I look at our mines and see The miners prepare for work, I think they are the bravest men, No danger do they shirk. A cave-in they do not fear, Nor a Hooded mine in the least, Though a demon may lurk inside Like a huge and unchained beast. The miners, little lights Cast off a puny glow Through the darkness that engulfs In the catacombs below. They lie upon their backs And dig in the dripping veing Their muscles knot and cramp Like a rheumatic pain.
