It is the last year of the old’ school before the renovations begin. When you return to North in the future you will see a school that is changing physically. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS 106 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS CLUB The main function of this club is to participate in the Model United Nations Conferences. Many conferences are attended each year in- cluding one at Harvard in the fall, and one at Yale in the spring. Students in this club gain a better understanding of politics and the world around them. MATH TEAM The Math Team consists of about fifteen members. It practices math questions once a week. Tile questions are usually related to algebra, number theory, geometry and trigo- nometry. They are responsible for the ever popular Pep Rallv which occurs during the first month of each school year. The B.A.A. works to raise the quality of spirit at North and to get people in- terested in participating in organized sports. E.R.M.U.S. Everyone Reaching for a More Unified Spirit is Great Neck North’s newest school spirit group. The main objective of this club is to promote enthusiasm for all of North’s athletic teams. The club arranges transportation to away games and makes watching North sports more enjoyable for everyone. The Girls’ Athletic Association is a club devoted to increasing the interest and in- volvement of all students in athletics. Its main function is to provide a needed service within our school. Students help out in the A Y room before, during and after school and leant to work with a wide variety of materials including films, filmstrips, audio and video tapes and slides. This club is completely responsible for the success of the student-run mock trials. SPORT VIEW Sport View, the newest of North s literary magazines, is open to all students. Hollander FRENCH CLUB The French Club is open to all students taking French, regardless of their fluency. Members have the opportunity to enjoy various cultural activities including French films, restaurants, speakers and learning French cooking. The French Chib’s main activity is the French Ex- change Program which occurs each year. SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is open to all students inter- ested in speaking Spanish and learning about the cultures of the many Spanish speaking countries. Messner HEBREW CLUB 'Hie Hebrew Culture Club has grown tremen- dously in the last two years. It provides an opportunity for students to meet others who, like- themselves, want to learn more about Jewish culture. The group has enjoyed movies, exhibits and discussions. It has also sponsored fund raisers which have raised a great deal of money for Ethiopian Jews. PSYCHOLOGY CLUB The Psychology Club is now in its fourth successful year. The bi-weekly meetings give its members a chance to discuss the concerns of teenagers as well as to find out more about behavior and personality. The club holds weekly meetings at which members can test their skills In addition, the best players form a team which completes in interschool tournaments. Regard- less of ability, or lack there of, the Chess Club welcomes new members. APT CLUB The Art Club is open to all students with an interest or an ability along artistic lines. Its members plan visits to exhibits and invite guest speakers involved in all aspects of art. They present a full length drama during the fall, a musical during the spring, and various assembly programs throughout the year. J.P. offers instruction and experience in acting, singing, directing and hack stage positions. Everyone is urged to join the growing Junior Players family. THESPIANS Thespians are very active members of the Junior Players Club who have been selec- tively chosen by the sponsor to receive a membership into the International Thespian Society. This society is dedicated to the advancement of dramatic arts in secondary schools. Any student who devotes a great deal of time and effort in Junior Players is eligible to become a Thespian. I. TERPSICHORE Terpsichore, the name of North's dance club, comes from the Creek word meaning, the joy of dancing. Auditions are held each year for talented and interested dancers. Members are expected to choreograph and teach dance pieces, which are performed for the student body. 114 SCI-FI CLUB If you are interested in science fiction or like to play Dungeons and Dragons, then the Sci- Fi Club is for you. Spon — C Butera FIRE WARDENS The Fire Wardens are charged with assisting in the quick, safe evacuation of the building. At the sound of the fire alarm, each warden takes his or her post to make certain that their particular area of the building has been emptied. The wardens then report to the front steps to give an accounting to the chief warden. CAREER OUTLOOK Career Outlook presents information needed to pursue a worthwhile and rewarding career. It is intended to be of use to all students whether they go to collge, a career-oriented school, or directly into the job market. Schloss DEBATE- FORENSIC TEAM The Debate-Forensic team meets bi- monthly to practice specific techniques such as extemporaneous speaking, persuasive speaking, and individual and group oral inter- pretations. Members research debate topics, prepare arguments, and engage in intra-team practice. The team participates in tournaments throughout Ixmg Island. This spring it will host the 3rd Annual Great Neck North Debate Tournament.” EPIPHANY Epipham. the literary magazine, publishes poetry, prose, artwork, and photography. Each edition contains articles about domestic and international politics, technologs', health and sports. The magazine format allows students to examine and write alxmt current issues at length and to offer opinions or suggestions for change. s.o. The Student Organization is the representa- tive voice of tbe students of Great Neck North. Its purpose is to promote a democratic, accessible student government which is dedicated to student activism and student rights. Important skills of persuasion, reason and compromise are developed as attempts are made to get fellow club members to enact bills. THEATER The O.K. stands for ordinary kids who put on improvisional plays and skits about themes of concern to teenagers. The O. K Theater has performed before school assemblies, commu- nity groups, senior citizens, and the State Legislature in Albany. PEER COUNSELORS Juniors who are recommended as being sensitive, compassionate, and good listeners are recommended for training as peer counse- lors. Each trained counselor meets with a small group of ninth grade students during the first part of each school year. Counselors provide information, answer questions, and generally assist in their transition to high school. 120 STAGE BAND One of the school's more popular, perform- ing, extracurricular groups, Tne Stage Band, meets every Tuesday after school. It performs its repertoire of jazzy-rock music at the In- strumental Concert in January and an assemb- ly program in May. Members are chosen in open auditions each September. T.A.P.I. Members of T.A.P.l. (Teenagers Pitch In) are involved in community service activities. At the Grace Plaza Nursing Home, students volunteer their time, lending their much needed support and compassion to the senior citizens. At CLASP (Children Living After School Program), students assist professi- ones, acting the roles of big brother and sister'and friend to the children. (Soviet Ethiopian Jewry Action Committee) members are interested in the plight of Soviet and Ethiopian Jews. Thev participate in numerous activities which enable them to learn, while also growing from the experiences of helping others. The activi- ties include SEP Programs, the Soviet Jewry Walk-a-thon, Solidarity Sunday, and fundraisers. S.E.J.A.C. members also gather and distribute information about these two groups of Jews. Sec. — J Schwarz. 121 FOOTBALL After losing the first four games of the season, it looked like it could be a respectable season for the Blazers after they blew out Valley Stream Central under the lights at Denton Avenue, 30-12. However, just when spirits were up, year ending injuries were suffered by starters Alan Cohen, Sam DeCesare, and Corey Henning in the next game against Kennedy Bellmore. These injuries left the Blazers with a depleted squad and left manv players playing 48 minutes a game. The players never gave up with the leadership of Coaches Thomas, Bovle. and Casey and Captains Terence McCowan (All Conference Selection) and Michael Schiff. Other seniors that made big con- tributions to the team were Lawrence Tacobi, Timothy McGowan, David Venegas, Eddie Moon, John Gaffney, Danny O'Brien, Joe McGroraty, Ivan Goodstein, Mitchell Cohen, and Anthony Oppedi- sano.
