But is is not easy as Lou Grant makes it seem. There are many different steps to putting out the school newspaper and the final product is a reflection of hard work on the part of about fifty students. The first part of this perpetual cycle is the general staff meet- ing in which news, feature and sports articles are assigned to whoever wants one. These am- bitious young muckrackers then go out and rake muck. During the week that they research their articles, they obtain infor- mation from liars and actors, as well as honest, law abiding ad- ministrators. teachers and stu- dents. It is up to the reporters to separate the hard facts from the mushy facts. After, the articles are handed to the famed Guide Post page editors. These butch- ers chop away at the copy. 24
