One addition, however, was not new. Soccer had been played at GM in the 1950's with Ryken serving as a tough competi- tor. With the addition of Coach Ali Ganiriz, physical education teacher and an avid soccer player, soccer was reinstated with much enthusiasm. The green team strove to win but lost to their Ron prevents a foul with a good kick, l lim steals the ball in an unorthodox manner, more experienced opponents. The winning of the last game, played against Charlotte Hall, helped to bolster the sagging morale of the team. Assistant Coach Alan Drimmer has high hopes for next year's team but regrets the loss of Seniors Gary Richardson tGoalieJ, Ron Lengel tHalf Backj, and Lou Turley tForwardl. Standing: Vincent Baumgartner Dennis LeGrant Mike Maacks Dave McCulloch, Tyrone Harris, Larry Garner, Gene Wood fCoachj Lacking overall team height, but with lots of hustle and aggressiveness, the Hornets of the 69-70 season finished with an 8-12 record and a third place finish in the St. Mary's County Invita- tional Tournament. In a rebuilding season with only two veterans from last year, The Hornets ran up a streak of wins over foes behind the hustle of seniors Steve Fadeley and Mel Cunningham, and the shooting of Larry Garner and Mike Barnes. Next year's prospects are promising vvith the return of this season's leading rebounder Tyrone Harris and Dennis LeGrant, leading scorer. Other players returning next year are Leroy Mason, Dave McCulloch, Vince Baumgartner, Glen Gar- ner, Odell Smith, Willie Boggen, Frank Clinton, and joe North.
