i Cyril H. Hancock Principal ' s Message The theme of this book, Student Life, represents more than the activities of the boys and girls in the Great Falls High School. It represents the realization of an ideal. In no other country do young men and young women have such unlimited opportunities for obtaining the benefits of education. In no other country are so many students attending the secondary schools, nor has any other country invested so much in the education of its youth. The student life of a typical American high school represents the realization of that distinctly democratic philosophy that education is for all boys and girls, and that to each should be given the privilege of attaining as much as his or her ability and ambition permits. May the young men and women pictured here continue to protect and defend our heritage of fre edom, and in the critical days that lie ahead may our investment in the education of our youth prove to be as it has in the past — our most valuable asset. Congratulations to the Class of 1948 and to the Roundup Staff for produc- ing this excellent record of student life. CYRIL H. Principal HANCOCK ( 14 l

Noble Confronted by unusually difficult school problems, the eight members of our board have proved themselves able and alert leaders by affecting a suc- cessful bond election in April, which will provide the funds necessary to rebuild schools, maintain repairs and keep teachers ' salaries adequate. It is through the efforts of these trustees that we have such excellent administrators, teachers and other school employees. Elected by the people, and serving without remun- eration, their position as mediators between public and school is one of impor- tant social consequence. Mr. R. H. Rebal Mr. J. F. Smith Mr. E. C. Would you please help me outline a course that will give me the requirements need- ed to enter a good college? Er-r-r . . . my mother forgot to write an excuse for my three days ' absence, so could I please have a pink slip? These queries and many, many others are fired at Mr. Anderson during the course of a normal day. He is in charge of student personnel which includes registration, educa- tional guidance, discipline, attendance, testing and recommendations for college admissions and scholarships. A great deal of credit is cer- tainly deserved by this very capable and effi- cient administrator. Edmund T. Anderson Vice-Principal Sympathy, encouragement and a guiding • hand are all part of Miss Murchie ' s valuable aid as dean, which, along with her efficient manner, sensitive insight both as Dean of Wo- men and as mathematics instructor, give her the prestige of being known and respected by all.
