SE IOR CLASS HISTURT N The strains of Pomp and Circumstance filled the air as I walked up the aisle of Great Bridge High for the last time as a ' student. Suddenly the music stopped, I looked down at the i diploma in my hand and realized that from that moment my N years as a high school student were a memory, a part of an un- X for ettable ast. 4, , 8 P X I had entered these halls four years ago as a freshman. That day I felt somewhat apprehensive but eager to begin my higher Qf Ji , education. The halls had seemed so large-the faces so strange. Yet today I knew every room and almost every face, but I was no longer a real part of all this. As freshmen our officers Chuck Sawyer, president, Clayton Glover, vice- president, Camille Chesson, secretary, Joe Sawyer, treasurer, and Julia Cahoon, reporter, had under the careful supervision of our sponsor, Miss Pendleton, planned our Freshman Fling. That night I had my first big date! My sophomore year I had gained a little of that high school polish so I felt sure I looked as if I had always been in high school. Our eliicient sophomore ofiicers were Thompson Mann, president, Rebecca Eason, vice-president, Julia Cahoon, secretary, Helen Denard, treasurer, and Billy True- blood, reporter. Mrs. Carson was our sponsor. At our Sock Hop, the most successful ever, we selected Thompson Mann and Sandra Hicks as our king and queen. At last I became an upper classman! As a Junior a slight air of superiority was my constant com- panion. The oflicers Thompson Mann, president, Mike Powell, vice-president, Helen Denard, secretary, Barbara Olah, treasurer, and Bobby Royster, reporter, really had a job. They had to make sure we sold enough candy to pay for the Junior-Senior prom. At the climax of our Junior year when we presented Oriental Gardens, everyone felt the time we had spent selling candy was most worthwhile. Without our sponsor, Miss Honeycutt, I know the prom plans would never have been adequate. In September 1959, I entered the doors of Great Bridge as an honored Senior. My mind was filled with many mature thoughts as I waved at Mrs. Creekmore, our sponsor. My heart danced as I thought of Senior rings, the Senior trip, and the Junior-Senior prom! When we walked down the aisle of the auditorium, everyone stood up while our ofiicers Thompson Mann, president, Gary Sanderlin, vice- president, Lynn Henry, secretary, Doris Liles, treasurer, and Linford Harrell, reporter, led us down to the very front row. Outwardly I appeared quite composed, but inwardly I was completely enjoying the envious looks of the under classmen. Now I envy those under classmen for they still have this most wonderful year to experience, and the thrill for me is over. The halls are empty now.-The Class of 1960 has separated, but I know that even though we may never return physically, we shall return mentally many times a year for these years are destined to be ones to remember always. .
