May your school year be scholastlcally profitable and socnally enloyable These were among the fnrst words spoken to us by Mr Eley our prmcnpal during our furst assembly Those of us who have known Mr Eley durnng our school years have grown to respect and admire hum not only as a great prnncupal but as a sincere frnend Great Bridge Hugh us an undeed fortunate school to have such a fme person as nts overall leader We have grown under Mr Eleys leadership and we shall continue to grow an the rnght durectlon because each of us knows that Mr Eley accepts nothing but our best 7 xl ll' MR. JOIIN B. EAVE5' Asslkfanr Pnhckal Mrs. Tatem, our guidance counselor, is one of the most faithful and capable members of our faculty. It is she who has seen that disappointments at grad- uation are kept at a minimum, because she checks our records and guides us into the classes that help us the most. In each of our lives, Mrs. Totem plays an integral part. Mr. Eaves, our assistant principal, has been at Great Bridge High School for three years. In this short time, he has won the admiration and respect of the faculty and student body alike. We all have found him to be a sincere edu- cator and friend with whom we can talk over problems, both large and small. MRS. NHUE 5. 7147541 Guidance fozmselor Me key to lflffflltflbll Faculgv I lx ff '55 45 ,W 3 .,, U Fam if ENGLISH If you are able to teach a student to read write and think then he can educate himself These are three of the many goals of our English Department under the lead ership of Mr Turner Good speech in every day life is emphasized The department endeavors to teach an appreciation for literature SOCIAL STUDIES Citizenship is the keynote of our Social Studies Department Each student a school citizen is of course a potential citizen of our country The history of our country is also taught along with the mechanics of government. Mrs. Creekmore is the head of this department. BUSINESS: Our Business Department is considered one of the most essential parts of our school. Many of us do not have the op- portunity to attend college, and because of the knowledge we have acquired under our teachers, we are able to find our way in the business world. Mr. Gaskins is the head of this department. SCIENCE: Because of the fact of the great scientific age in which we live, our Science Depart- ment is one of the most important depart- ments in our school. Mr. Griffin heads this department that teaches the importance of science as well as scientific principles. MATH: Regardless of what vocation a person pursues, he uses some form of math. Our Mathematics Department teaches one of the necessities of living in a useful society, the various forms of mathematics. Mr. DeFord is the head of the department. SHOP, AGRICULTURE, D.E., D.O.: learning to work with one's hands as well as his mind is important. In our shop, and agriculture classes, we do iust this. In Distributive Education and Diversified Occupations, Mr. Clark teaches his students how to make a living. These students have on the iob experience in a chosen vocation. 22-I I 3 , ,, 1 Ain. 'V P' HOME EC. - LIBRARY: Miss Halstead trains our girls to be home- makers by teaching them in Home Eco- nomics classes to cook, sew, and run a home. Whenever we need books to read or material for a research paper, it is Miss Stallings, our librarian, that we run to. She keeps a pleasant, well-equipped library for each of us to use and enioy. Mauna MUSIC: Our Music Department is composed of Miss Newsom, choral director, and Mr. Martin, instrumental director. The en- deavors of these two fine teachers have gained county-wide recognition for our school. 5' .2 faculty li ts, , PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Physical development and sportsman- ship are the key words that define our Physical Education Department. These teachers are ever striving to better our standing in inter-scholastic athletic com- petition. Health instruction is also stressed in each of our physical education classes, which proves to be a benefit to each student. OFFICE: We are deeply indebted to Mrs. Finch who heads the office statT. She, with the help of her assistants, is one of the main reasons why our school is run so efficiently. ELEMENTARY: Our sixth and seventh grade teachers make up a school within themselves. These teachers are the ones responsible for train- ing many of our student body to be better high school citizens because here we make so many adiustments between elementary school and high school lite. Absent when faculty pictures were taken: Mrs. Eason, Art, Mr. Ridings, Driver Training, Qg CUSTODIAL AND CAFETERIA STAFF: With many a mouth to feed and many a room to clean, our custodians and lunch room staft have been working hard this year. Through all kinds of weather, Great Bridge High students have been able to depend on a clean and warm building, as well as plenty of food to eat. 1 .-full. ,QNX J - 1' T ii I al . .
