Creative students feel immediate involvement Immediate involvement is experienced by the students taking part in Journalism and Music Departments at Great Bend Senior High School. A true dedication by stu- dents must be present to ensure that a finished product is ready on time. For the Great Bend High School Band, this means early morning practices, blowing hair, and cold hands in the preparation for football half-time entertain- ment. Under the direction of Mr. Joe Boley, the band prac- tices to produce an outstanding sound, accompanied by a marching presentation. As the year progresses, the Jour- nalism Department swings ahead full force to keep the students informed on events taking place in and around the high school. p E f Stew Brann, feature editor of Panther Tales, looks at Edi- tor Jill Hewitt as she helps edit his story. Rhorea Editor John Martin browses through the 1971 year book, thinking over some ofhis past experiences.

The Panther defense stiffened during the second half and stopped the Redskins cold but the Panthers could not sustain successful offensive drives . , Against Hays, then rated 6th in 4A, a question of a closely called play entered into the picture and though many people feel that Great Bend actually scored a touchdown, the Panthers wre defeated 7 to 0. Ranked 3rd in 3A, a strong Pratt eleven defeated Great Bend 12 to 0, even though the Panthers amassed more first downs than their opposing rivals. Although Great Bend had lost the first three games of the season the school spirit remained intact as the Panthers prepared for Thomas More Prep. eam spirit is questioneo
