The enthusiasm and effort displayed by this year ' s Olympian staff in producing a school year- book are commendable. Our congratulations are extended to all who have made some contribution to the success of this desirable enterprise. Amid continuous changes in many areas, the high quality of the Olympian remains the same from year to year. From our viewpoint as principal and vice-principal at Grantham we can see many changes oc- curring. As students you may not be quite as aware of them and perhaps this is a good opportunity to bring them to your attention. During the fall the staff conducted a serious examination of the past, present and future directions of Grantham. Special consideration was given to the signifi- cance of the Scholarship committee because these had both student and parent representatives. The conclusions will have an impact on the directions of our school for many years to come. Grantham High School will develop a curriculum which is as broadly based as facilities allow and the teaching methods will be diverse so that maximum student needs may be served. Above all scholarship will be emphasized but scholarship will not refer to marks as was the case in the past. Scholarship will be identified with the student who displays high motivation, creativity and superior comprehension, accompanied by a consistent attitude and achievement using logical thought. These characteristics can apply to any course in any phase at any year level. A second emphasis will be to develop an interdisciplinary curriculum and methodology. Some examples of this are present now in our new courses in Environment, Civics and Creative , Crafts. Finally but of no less importance will be the continued efforts to increase communications, contact and understanding among staff, students and parents. This may mean more adult students, expansion of the Grantham Activity nights to include parents and whatever else will assist. Increasingly you, as students, and your parents, will be asked for your opinions on what you would like the school to do and to be. It will be a slow but continuous process and ultimately the success will be the result of all of us working together. Wm. H. Wiley and C. R. Salter.
