The SwingBand proceeded strongly into its second year at Cw.F.H.S, with a repertoire of nearly fifteen members. The band is able to draw quite widely for its performances. The Swing Band played for the Homecoming program and also benefited the P.T,A. with three members at one of its meetings. Brass Sextet: Karl Johnson, James Hend- rickson, Darrel Bjornson. Bob Lovell, and Rosalind lms, Not pictured: Ray Sheggeby. Saxophone Quartet: Tommy Thorkelson, Mary West, Judy Baker, and Janell Tay- lor. Clarinet Quartet: Jani Baker, Donna Wilson, Connie Velde, and Margaret Knutson. The Majorettes traveled with the band to all marching events. THIRD ROW: Jon Brunner, Annette Sebring, Robert Gustafson, Sig Soli, Nancy Nelson, Kenny Hanson, Tommy Thorkelson, Cindy Odland, Mary West. FOURTH ROW: Darrel Bjornson, Jim Siewert, Rich Lundell, Steve Carlson, David Lovering, Scott Ronnie, David Paulson, James Hendrickson, Rollie Anderson, Julie Seber, Douglas Agre, Karl Johnson, Rodney Hanson. The 1961 Senior Band, under the direction of Orel Vangen, presented two home concerts. The Midwinter Concert took place on February 5, on a Sunday afternoon. A few ofthe selections played at this were Divertimento, Night Clouds, and lf Thou Be Near. The Annual Spring Concert was presented May 7. Overture l812, Carousel, and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring were three numbers through which the band exhibited its talent. The band received an important honor when it was chosen as the clinic band for the Minnesota Music Educa- tors' Association. The 64-piece group traveled to Minneapolis on Feb- ruary 10 to present a concert and demonstration. Congratulations for another year of fine work! 39

SECOND ROW: Mary Ann Stueland, Ellen Vaala, Jean Stouffer, Rosemary Hanson, Bev Yaeger, Mary Lovering, Jan Podoll. THIRD ROW: Rosaline Halstad. Roberta Sebber, Barb Cole, Sharon Anderson, Lu Anne Gabbert, Annette Sebring, Jan Hemmingson, Dorthy Eckert, Diane Cavender. Mr. McCoy, Mrs. Torgersong Miss Shultz, Barbara Eddy, Treasurerg Janice Hemrningson, Secretaryg Janice Podoll, Publicity Officer, Annette Sebring, President, Georgia Brennan, Vice President. The Junior Red Cross took its debut in the year of l96l, under the direction of its president Annette Sebring. A fund-raising campaign was held this fall, with quite a good representation of funds from each class. Assorted boxes con- taining objects such as toothbrushes, combs, and pencils were also collected. The group also spent some time at the local rest home making the lives of the people there more bright, The Junior Red Cross is truly a valuable addition to G.F.H.S. 41
