The 1961 Student Council was called together for its first meeting in September by President Rich Lundell. Secretary Nancy Nelson began her duties by carefully following the meeting with pen and little brown book, while vice-president Ray Sheggaby looked on. Treasurer Art Ringsven began to examine the council funds, which were found to be favorable. The Student's representative body, Z1 strong, began its fall work with the planning of Homecoming. Committees in charge of the program and field decorations, went to work and did some expert work. Homecoming was deemed a success by all. The establishment of committees to study student complaints, the start of a foreign student program, and the limitation of student dances were only a few of the programs devised by the '61 council. Attendance at both the District ll Council Meeting and the Southwestern Minnesota Council Meeting provided new ideas for the council members. A safety program spon- sored by the Governor's Advisory Council on Children and Youth was also attended by several council members. The Granite Falls Student Council has a great deal more to say about the school's policies than many other councils around the state. We as students should be grateful and proud of our Student Council. Susan Allchin and Rich Lundell took over as Secretary and Principal, respectively on Student Government Day, a Student- Council sponsored activity.
