Golden Six Football Football Record The Grandin,Eagles took second place in the Golden Six Conference when they were defeated in a hard fought game with Mapleton. This was the only loss for the Eagles in the conference while they had four wins. The Eagles had an overall standing of seven wins and two losses. The Eagles completed their third year of foot- ball with a 7-2 record loosing to Climax in a four game jamboree and to Mapleton for the Golden Six ,M .V,. .M , The kick -off LZ .L ,n Don going out for a run WHEEL - IN CAFE Grandin Conference crown. The Eagles romped over Hen- drum, Leonard, and Abercrombie without much trouble. Sheldon, Wheatland, McVil1e, and Hunter gave Grandin a little more trouble but the Eagles managed to come through successfully. High scorer was quarterback Don Zimney with 95 points. The Eagles compiled a 18 -4 record taking second place in a holiday tourney and third place in conference and district play. In the Holi- day Tourney at Northwood the Eagles beat the Crookston Aggies 64-53 and went on to be beat by Northwood in the finals 57-77. Because of our loss to Amenia 57-59 in a double overtime during the year we took second place in our half of the CVC conference and therefore played Abercombie for the third place title which we won 80-39. In the District 6 Tournament at Mayville we defeated Hatton 73-45 but were then defeated by Northwood 54-55. In the game for third place we defeated Hunter 71 -61. During the season letterman Terry Meyer re- ceived a 17 point average with his 390 points. Terry was co-captains and CVC all-star player along with Don Zimney. Freshman Craig Hildreth and junior Wendel Meyer were also starters for the Eagles. Gene Krueger, Roger Mulvaney, and Dave Backlund alternated in fifth position on the team. B-Squad Record Under the leadership of Coach Norris Johnson, Grandin's B-Squad completed a very successful basketball year with a rec- ord of nine Wins and three losses. The team opened the season with a 37 to 29 Win over Hendrum 's Huskies. The Eagles first loss was to Hillsboro 28-33. The tournament was held this year in Argusville and Arthur because of the poor road conditions in Grandin. In the first game of the tourney, Grandin lost to Arthur in Close scoring, but the Juniors went on to defeat Argusville for fifth place. Because of the weather we were un- able to have the bonfire so Mr. Kaldor introduced the football team and explained some fundamentals of the game. Friday morning the seniors put the finishing touches on the decorations. At noon the girls helped prepare the queen candidates, who assembled at Oien's. The boys were also busy getting ready for the game with Wheatland. The time finally came for the crowning of the queen. Three nervous girls and the former queen, Bev Stokke, came onto the field during half-time of the game. After introducing the can- Lynn, Queen Karen, Sh aron , and former queen, Bev Stokke, in front seat GRANDIN GARAGE Grandin didates, Mr. Ahrlin announced the new queen, Karen Oien. Cheers were heard from the crowd as the convertible moved off the field. By the way, we won the game by a score of 42 to 18. That night Homecoming came to its peak with the presentation of the royalty, Queen Karen Oien and her attendants, Lynn Goff and Sharon Satrom. They were escorted by the tri-captains, Larry Schechinger, Terry Meyer, and Donnie Zim- ney. The program also consisted of two musical numbers by the senior girls and a skit, a take-off of Art Linkletter's Houseparty, by the junior class. A rock and roll band from Thompson, the Malibus, rounded off the evening to make a successful third annual Homecoming. Senior Class Senior Class Trip At 4:00 A.M. on Friday, April 29, fourteen extremely sleepy seniors and their chaperones headed for Minneapolis and three days of fun. The chaperones for the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Wally Wentworth, Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Zimney, and Mr. C. I. Ahrlin. Most of the first day was spent sight- seeing, shopping, bowling and walking in the rain. Saturday morning the boys were off bowling again while the girls slept. Larry finally went to sleep after staying awake for fifty hours. The afternoon was spent sightseeing at the airport and Metropolitan Stadium. That evening the whole group enjoyed a banquet. After the banquet most of the seniors took a taxi to the Cinerama and the rest of them went bowling again. After the Cinerama and bowling the kids got together for pizza. Sunday morning the seniors prepared for the trip home. The boys were suprised to find May baskets outside their doors. They didn't catch the girls, though!
