Girls' Basketball Team FRONT ROW: Mrs. Jo Sather, Beverly Woitzel, Evonne Woitzel, Jo Elliott, Jean Elliott, Barbara Cwowenlock. BACK ROW: Judy Anderson, Deanna Anderson, Carol Holznagel, Jackie Grage, Frances Peterson. The Grandin girls' basketball team had a very successful season during 1953-54, Coached by Mrs. Jo Sather, they had 17 wins and 9 defeats with a total of Z6 games in- cluding tournament games. Seven conference games were played during the season. The girls won all of these games to win the conference trophy. The District 14144 tournaments were held at Hunter on February 17, 18, and 2.0, In the playoff game on Wednesday, Feb- ruary 17 the Erie girls were defeated by Grandin by a score of 49-36, On Thursday, Feb- ruary 18 the girls were set back by Ayr in a hard fought game with a score of 32-38. Grandin came back to win the third place trophy by beating Arthur by a score of 48-Z9 on Saturday, February 20, The third place trophy and the conference trophy were presented to the girls' team Saturday evening after the championship game between Gardner and Ayr which Gardner won. Evonne and Beverly Woitzel were Co-Captains of the team through- out the season. The team will lose two players, Jo Elliott and Evonne Woitzel, who are seniors. 28
