SOUTH OF THE BORDER Twenty seven persons, all decked in gala attire, were seen entering the Grand Valley Union High School before dark the evening of Aprll 19 Maklng up the group were the faculty members, the seniors, and the hosts of the evening- the junlors After all had been presented with colorful Mixlcan hats to wear, the guests went lnto the beautifully decorated gym where four tables ,leamed a pleasant invitation This year marks the first time a Junlor Senlor banquet has been served in the gym Tre theme nSouth of the Qcrdern was carried out in an effectlve manner at both the banquet and prom Blue and white, the colors of the senior class, were emphasized in an elaborate scheme of decoration The Mexlcan idea was expressed at the banquet in the favors, sombreros Mexican boy salt shakers for place cards and in the fitting toasts glven by Eva Lou Crawford, junior class presid nt by carl Alber, senlor president, and by Mr Gardner Norman Dutton, and Mr Youmans Jack Crawford entertained the group by singing NEI Rancho Grandeu to the tune of a guitar Dressed as Spanish maidens, Georgie Benedetti, Georgia Marling, Ethel Harrison and Bina Prltchard served the guests Following the banquet, the grand march of the prom began at nine o'clock Although the prom was informal in dress, a certain degree of formallty Nas evidenced in the dance programs, the punch and wafers, and the floor show To bring into the prom the idea of the favorite mode cf Mexican transportatlon, small colored burros were used for dance tickets The floor srow, too, was Mexican Mr Killian sang 'South of the Border Louise Blue and Bina Pritchard dl a Spanish dance to the song HThe Gay Caballero', Maybelle Quinn sang WLa Palomau, and Georgie Benedetti and Jack Crawford first appearance lP the instrumental field as they made trelr played ULa Uuslc and was so played at one o'cl0ck, the m1cr ergoyed tha Tre jUUlOTS, togetrer are to oe corgratulatel cn efforts Jollndrinan in a saxophone duet vas furnished for the prom by Ray's Orchestra t when HHore Sweet Women vas crowd left with reluctance with their sponsor hr Vouman the splendid success of their S 1 ' 1 . . w ' 0 ' .4 . o . l 1 L - f V , M 5 J 0 . . ,., I L . p . o ' A A 45 U I - . u . , v - fm f ' '. , A l , A.
