HONOR STUDENTS RANKING IN DONNA WOLFE She is one of those rare people who can charge through a busy day and come out of it looking as neat as when she started. Donna ranks third in the honor list. CATHY LOAR LINDA ROGERS The fourth honor student, is Miss Congeniality of our class. Linda is that rare combination: fragile, blonde, beauty, and intelligence, too. KAY PHILLIPS A petite young lady. Cathy, is our fifth honor student. She may be small but she can move mountains. She’s peppy and studious, a useful combination. 14 Independence and capability combine to make Kay. our sixth honor student, a scholar and a valuable friend.

SALUTATORIAN THE WORLD OF TOMORROW Good morning and welcome to this Awards Day Assembly. I am up here on the stage to give the salutatory address, but some of you, I’m sure, are not aware of what a salutatory is. A saluatatory is simply a welcoming speech. And today my salutatory is addressed to all of the students of the student body, but mainly to the Seniors, for I would like to welcome you to the World of Tomorrow. On the evening of June 10, 1969, you. Seniors will be stepping into the world of tomorrow. In the following years the rest of the student body will also be stepping into this new and exciting world. This world of tomorrow is made of dreams, hopes, and ambitions. And we, every student in this auditorium, have one unique advantage — we have been raised in the greatest nation on earth, the United States of America. Here in the land of plenty we have been given the unique advantages that students in other parts of the world are rejected. Here in America we can have our freedom of speech and thought and action. We can grow and develop as individuals and also as part of a huge family. Here is America we can go where we want and get the kind of job we want. Yes, our home — America! And America is a part of our World of Tomorrow. Oh yes, we all hear about the rioters and demonstrators who say America is all wrong and that it has to be changed. But I believe that America has many more good points than bad. Instead of tearing down America we should build on the many good points she has. This is what the class of 1969, I’m sure, plans to do — build up not tear down. Most of us have set our goals on the highest star and now we plan to reach that star. As I welcome you all to the world of tomorrow, I have a suggestion for you. There are two necessities to be a success in the world of tomorrow. These are having determination and having God by your side. When you have determination you can do anything, no matter how hard or how seemingly impossible. Determination is having faith that you can do something, and you all know that faith can move mountains. You need determination, no matter whether you’re a housewife, dentist, teacher, welder, machinist, lawyer, or whatever. Determination drives you forward and upward to do your very best in whatever field you choose. Besides determination you need God by your side. Perhaps some of you think that I shouldn’t mention God; that God has nothing to do with the world of tomorrow. But He does. He has everything to do with our world. PATRICIA THORN God was in space on Christmas Eve. The three astronauts could not help but know that God was there when they saw the magnificent view of space and the earth and the moon. We must be like them today. We cannot help but realize that God is here and is responsible for our world. We know this just by seeing a seed change into a tree; a bud into a beautiful flower; and embryo change into a human baby. Fantastic!! It is quite miraculous to think that we students came into this world as helpless, crying, dependent babies and today we are independent, self-reliant, ambitious human beings. It’s really fantastic how fast we have progressed. Only through God's will have we done this. I am really saddened by the fact that the United States used to be such a Christian nation and now we seem to drifting away. People must realize the connection between us being a Christian nation and also the greatest nation on earth. When I say that America is the greatest nation on earth, I’m not being prejudiced, because it's a fact. Even if I lived in another country I would still have to say that the United States is the greatest nation on earth. This has been accomplished with the help of God. With determination and God beside us we can go out into the world of tomorrow knowing that we are ready to climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow till we find our dream. Welcome to this world of tomorrow. 13

ORDER OF TOP TEN PERCENT OF THE CLASS DOROTHY RENEAU HERMAN PRICE Dorothy has gone quietly and efficiently through her four years at G. H. S. to earn seventh place in our honors list. There’s a twinkle in the eye of our eighth honor student. Herman Price. Perhaps the twinkle is due to Herman’s surprising store of knowledge; he's a walking information center. DIANE MATLICK Ninth on our honors list is Diane Matlick, the head Majorette of our band. Despite her busy schedule she has made excellent grades. JUDY REESE Ambition is a strong trait in the character of scholar member ten. Judy. She is organization personified: she has managed to organize us all and make good grades besides.
