hristian Service Sunday school, children 's church, nursing homes, Awana . . . the list goes on,' these are just some of the opportunities for service that are available. Through their C.S. assignments, stu- dents learn leadership, responsibility, and pa- tience. They also get the chance to take some of the head knowledge they've acquired in class and apply it 1'n an actual ministry. This gives them practical experience for future roles they may be required to perform. For the freshmen, their Christian Service orientation class intro- duces them to the different types of service pos- sible and how to go about them. 16 Activities

New Crea tion ew Creation members were: Steve Schmidt, Connie Hofer, Sheila Friez, fn Hofer, Kim Duerksen. Living Tru th F Living Truth members were: Deb Regier, Debbie Walter, Gary Wis- sel, Duane Unruh, Laurel Callahan. Ke- Beginning in July, the New Cre- ation quartet traveled for six ex- citing weeks to various camps and churches in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Colorado. They would usually work at camps dur- ing the week and minister in churches on the weekends. While at the camps, their duties included singing, along with counseling, recreation activities, and teaching at one family camp. According to Kim Duerksen, You just kind of helped wherever you were need- ed. In commenting on her exper- ience last summer, Kim went on to say, I think I learned the im- portance of service because it was a summer of putting my life into peopIe's. It was a sacrifice, but there were a lot of rewards f through that. It was exciting to see how the Lord worked through music. Also ministering through music during the summer, and continuing through this school year, was the Living Truth quar- tet. Beginning in early June and running through July, they too traveled to differ- ent camps and churches in the Midwest. Besides sharing their music at the camps, they were also involved in counseling, teaching classes, and various other jobs. At one camp, they even helped with maintenance. According to Duane Um-uh, the sum- mer was a great experience for every member of the group. They learned lead- ership and responsibility and learned to be adjustable, to make things work. Duane commented, We grew in God be- cause of the summer. We had to trust in Him for everything. Activities 15
