inis tri es Summer provides splendid opportunities to practice some of the theory learned in classes, whether at home or on the mission field. Last sum- mer, 21 Grace representatives shook the home- town dirt off their shoes and headed toward a world outside their own cultural, linguistic andfor national barriers. The interns covered the whole scope of the globe, from Irian Jaya to Panama, from Alaska to Guam. Besides observing a totally new environment, most of these students felt the strain of not being able to communicate with the national people and trying to adapt to another level or class of society. Others, such as those majoring in Chris- tian Education, Pastoral Ministries and Radio Com- munications worked on their internships here in the states. The work commissioned to the students included painting, construction, Summer Bible Schools, office work, evangelism, preaching, broadcasting, and more. J' J ' ',,',, 'QAM JP if Mary Patterson in Irian Jaya When questioned as to how she viewed missionaries, Mary Patterson, a missions intern in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, stated, They're hard workers. They have to have ingenuity to be able to make things work that ordinarily don't work. Kim Kroeker, a summer worker in Mali, West Africa, gives this advice, Go prepared, but expect to be unprepared. 14 Activities
