A Grace alumnus, he formerly served as a missionary to Zaire, Africa. ir We have all known men whose lives radiate Christ, who truly know the meaning of trusting God. ln our time at Grace, one man's faith - and the practical outworking of that faith - stand out. We have seen in the life of Allan Wiebe those qualities which come from a sincere walk with God. You've allowed God to work in and through you to touch our lives as well. You've shown us that you care. You've made your teaching practical rather than abstract. You've taught us by the example of your zeal for missions, your gentle nature, your disci- plined life. For putting your trust in God and letting Him use you - thank you. Give us Dear Lord strength and courage as we go out to fight the fight of life. Live through us in a majesty which will out shine all others that your glory might be seen in us. Lord give us your love to share abroad to carry with us as a shield against the hate we will come up against. The love that will bring all men to you. Thank you Dear Lord as you travel along with us and hold our hands when we tremble, carry us when we become weak, and gently nuture us as we become weary. Thesestudents participate in the vocational program at Grace. The first year, at Grace, they take general Bible courses. Then their second and possible third year is spent offcampus getting some kindof secular training so that they can minister in the working world. Finally these students return to Grace for a final year of Bible courses and polishing up. This past year several of these students lived on campus going to schools in the local area. Therefore they were able to get their training while enjoying the Christian fellowship living at Grace provides. Second Semester Every year we have several students join us in the center of the year or second semester. These students come from various ministries. Some graduating early from high school, working in their home areas and still others that have been out ministering in foreign fields. 5-E Stanford Arlene Janzen, R.A. Halls: A setting for growth Perhaps the biggest change for a freshman college student was the transition from home to dormitory living. Adjusting to an expanded family of strangers wasn't easy! To ease the adjustment and encourage growth, dorm residents shared 'fun like roller skating, hay rides, pizza and even care packages. The new friend- ships led to spiritual growth as well, as residents learned, prayed and fellowshipped together. A 4-S Old Main Carrie Hiebner, R.A. li Ember Jim Ball, R.A. This year fewer than 30 students traveled from their homes to campus for class. Commuting may have advantages, students say, ranging from Mom's home cooking to freedom from dormitory regula- tions to lower costs. But disadvantages are also present: commuters may miss out on campus activi- ties and building relationships with fellow students. Commuting students Married students Sharing a learning experience with the family. That's how a lot of our married students lives go, busy with studies, work, home and family activities, etc. Many families have both husband and wife attending there- fore their classes together can be used as sharing and learning experiences together. Living in student housing close to campus and becoming in- volved in the married students activities keep these very special students young and quite active in school activities. V G R O W T H Youth Conference Youth Conference proved to liven up the cam- pus this year like it had done in the past. With about 200 high school students invading the school grounds the excitement was high in the air. The weekend had been planned and prayed for by alot of people but especially by the youth confer- ence committee. This years theme was Go Deep- er to Grow Higher . Mr. Tom Allen was the guest speaker that weekend. The sessions were well attended not only by the guest and students, but with people from the Omaha area. Besides the sessions of Tom Allen's the guest were provided with tours of the campus. a concert, and they attended a Royals basketball game. A growth and new understanding was evident in all. British Maj. lan Thomas ftopj told students to stop sweating A it out and let Christ live through them. The theme of the Bible Conference Oct. 15-19 was Christ our Life. Maj. lan Thomas challenged his audience to quit trying to live for Christ, but allow Christ to live through them. Thomas said the purpose of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection was not to get man into heaven, but God into the man. John Davis presented Jesus Christ as the Perfect Shepherd of Psalm 23. A goal of 330,000 was reached in pledges for the Grace Fellowship Day project to prepare music facilities in the Administrative Center Complex. Women's Retreat The women's retreat was held at Hanscom park. The retreat started at 9:00 in the morning as the girls boarded the buses and drove to the park. Some of the activities were lectures on how to live a godly life. Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Sundeen were the guest speakers. They both held workshops in the morning and in the after- noon. There was a lot of singing and learning new songs. After the picnic lunch there were games and a scavenger hunt. Besides all the group activities the girls were encouraged to spend time alone with God. After a full day of fun and learning the girls loaded back onto the buses and headed back to-campus. Committees: Planning the year ahead Most students may not be sure just what committees do - but most aspects of life at Grace are affected by committees. The Spiritual Life committee headed by Sam Goertz sought to help students develop spiritually by promoting prayer. The Student Life committee's job is to help students see more of a need to grow through discipline, chairman Gary Ranfeld said. Two members from each class are elect- ed by the student body. Two other committees are involved in re- cruiting new students. Colleges can win or lose in the admissions race on the basis of a first impression. Family, special friends, and alumni make the day a special one, as we communicate in so many different ways. Then off to the basketball game, where, together we cheer our team on, as if to say, We're the best around, win or lose. Tension is at its peak till the final seconds. What a thrilling game it was' But the day's not over yet. Special Guests provide us with music and testimony. What a fulfilling way to end the day as we have a chance to relax, to enjoy, and to evaluate our experience with the person behind it all ....... Jesus Christ. I saw the beauty of the foggy misty mornings that bent down to kiss my face. The brilliance of the sun was so great as it peeped out from behind the trees l stopped to wonder from where it came. I noticed the chattering squirrel as he worked and scolded as the winter fast approached. g I 'f Crossing the bridge into adulthood l gazed into the cool still waters below and watched as it reflected back the beauty around me. Then looked up to the stretching sands of things that were beyond. l loved the people that I met and learned from them to enjoy the simple and intricate in life. l never realized when 'l started out that there could be so much complication in life. So many new and unusu- al places were waiting for me to visit.
