W2 SF X E W vu, I 1, -SQ mfs As clay in the Potteris hands, We have been con- tinually aware of the molding processes of His earthen vessels. This process has come to us in the form of various trials, experiences and circumstances. We have all felt the pressure of His hands in the daily routine of studies, dorm living and employment. Yet in perfect love He has wrought a work on the Potter,s wheel and if marred in any Way, He will remake that vessel till it seems good to Himself. As Christians we should have the desire to con- tinually yield ourselves to the Master Potter so that we can be vessels of honor, fit for the Mastefs use. T chetter Dedication He captures our intellect to focus it on Bible doc- trine. He takes time to understand our problems and untangles our confused Curriculums. And in each diverse task, he maintains-his remarkable diplomacy. When Mr. Tschetter first joined our staff in 1958, he was well qualified both in secular and theological training. A graduate of Grace Bible Institute, Grace Theological Seminary, and Huron College, he also did some graduate study at the University of Wichita be- fore receiving his Masteris degree from the University of Omaha. Prior to 1958, he also completed three years of teaching experience at Berean Academy. Since 1960, he has held the position of Dean of Education here at Grace. Now we, the seniors of Grace Bible Institute, wish to acknowledge his contributions to our school. To you, Mr. Donald Tschetter, we gratefully dedicate this 1969 CI-IARIS. Its members consist of students coming from Canada to Texas, from Pennsylvania to California, meeting in the center to study Godis Word and to allow it to mold them into vessels for God'-s use, These students have toiled long hours over the books, have been challenged by Christian Service assignments, and have learned to develop satisfying personal relation- ships in order to make them ready for this great step into the future they are now ready to take. Soon they will be leaving, going back to the North, the South, the East, and the West, to do the work for which God has pre- pared them. Some will find themselves overseas doing mis- sionary work, others will go back home to their own communities as Christian lay workers, and many will go to places they have never seen before. Through the years hundreds of people around the world will be blessed by the dedication of the individuals of this class. Thus the Bible Department, with Mr. Tschetter as its director, fills a vital role in the total CBI program. The aim of this department is to train students in the Word of God for future service for Him. Bible surveys, theological studies, and book studies give students the background needed for communicating God's message to all the World. Bible Department Many hours are spent here. Truths of the Word graphically illustrated. The Christian Education Department at Grace Bible Institute seeks specifically to help students com- municate the truths of Cod's WVo1'd more effectively. During the 1968-69 school year, the Director of the Christian Education Department, Dr. Anna Rieger, has been assisting evangelical missionary organizations in Europe. This sabbatical year has given Dr. Rieger the opportunity to become directly involved in train- ing national workers in such countries as Germany, Italy and France. We look forward to her return to the GRACE campus for the 1969-70 school year. Considerable planning has been carried on during this year in anticipation of offering new courses and a new cooperative program in secretarial science during the following year. Through these expansions the de- partment seeks to train more students for leadership roles in the Christian education ministries of the church. Chri tian Education Department ei-f . at W. A. Regier Prophecy 8: Personal Evangelism Growing is the word for the Christian Service De- partment at CBI. In the last couple years several new programs have been started. A new one this year is a team going to the Minimum Security section of the Douglas County Hospital. Last year a team was or- ganized to go to University of Nebraska at Omaha to witness to the students there. Child Evangelism work was also begun last year as a C.S. Christian Service assignments are important in the lives of CBI students. It's our lab part of trainingg pre- paring for the real thing, says Mr. Regier, the C.S. director. Often this experience leads a student to his life's work. Mr. Hegier advises the students to share their problem with the Lord and to ask Him for a real burden for these they work with. There are however several new members on the faculty: Mr. Kapp, teaching Philosophy and Psychologyg Miss Sedivy, teaching English, Speech, and World Literatureg Mr. Alan Wiebe, teaching Frenchg and Mr. Roger Lester, teaching General Psychology. General Education Department f Alan Wiebe Missions Mr. Alan Wiebe, head of the department of mis- sions seeks to introduce the Scriptural concept of mis- sions by offering an Introduction of Missions course to all incoming students. Subsequent missions courses guide students to proven practices of sharing Christ, acquaint them with foreign cultures and religions, and provide training and practical experience which will qualify the student to fulfill the requirements of present day missionary service. Above all, the department seeks to inspire students to make a definite commitment concerning a full-time missions ministry. Of special interest in the missions department this school year are the scholarships being made available by the various prayer bands to students desiring to do summer missionary service. The missionary conference held during the first week in March again proved to be one of the highlights in the school calendar. lission Department Ll To glorify Cod and help others to a more personal relationship with Him is the highest purpose and prime concern of the music department. Over half the student body is actively engaged in the music program at Grace. Music is not only im- portant in serving the Lord, but it plays a vital role in worshipping Cod. Some of the animal highlights of the department are the oratories, concerts, tours, and programs given by small vocal and instrumental ensembles. The music department seeks to bring about the realization that a voice or an instrument is not merely a performance of pleasant pitches and tones, but a vessel through which the Holy Spirit can work a spiritual ministry. VVho would have dreamed, even five years ago, that we would have men circling the moon or that human hearts could successfully be trans- planted? Yet with all our technical and medical advances, the world today has problems like it has never seen before. Everywhere we see signs of social, economical, and political unrest. The world into which we, as young people, will be going is full of frustrated, mixed-up people searching desperately for some meaning or purpose in life. We, as young people who know jesus Christ in a personal way, have the answers to life-there is no doubt of that. The problem comes as we try to communicate our faith to the world around us. To help solve this problem, I believe one of the main purposes of Grace is to turn out balanced young people who, with Christ as the center of their lives, are physical- ly, socially, and mentally prepared to make Iesus Christ relevant to the world in which we live. Therefore, it has been our purpose as a Student Body Executive Committee to create an atmosphere in which it is possible to become a socially, physically, mentally, and spiritually balanced individual-an individual who is up to date and culturally prepared for reaching the world as it is today with the realization that jesus Christ is the only answer to the worldis problems. It is my desire that each of us, as Grace young people, accept tl1e challenge of this excit- ing day in which we live, and allow jesus Christ to use us as individuals to make an impact upon our world. At the all school picnic the freshmen were properly initiated with beanies to be worn for one week. The election of S. B. Found between its covers are nine months of history, a history which each and every student has helped build in one way or another. In a sense, then it is the animal staffs job to present that history to the students of Grace through pictures and words in a way which is attractive and meaningful. Only, when this job is done in the best way possible can the staff feel that they have fulfilled their responsibility. During these months, as each man and woman was con- tributing to this year, the CHABIS staff of '68-'69 was striving to capture that mood, thought and action transmitted by the total school atmosphere. Each week the staff met to discuss and plan all that should go into this year-is annual. In addition many, many more hours were put in by numerous personnel who gave of their time and effort. ln your hands is the completed work of a dedicated staff and hardworking helpers. As students we hear speaker after speaker and learn many truths in our classes, but all these efforts at learning are in vain unless put into practice. The Christian Service assignment which each student receives offers opportunity to put into practice what he has learned. Dan Harder, Assistant Pastor, speaks to the youth. A variety of new ideas were brought into focus as the committee formulated ways of involving every girl. The highlight of the year was the choosing of Miss Twinkle Toes. Grinding out term papers takes many hours. Dorm Life Dormitories-buildings with halls and doors and rooms-rooms that be- come a student's home for nine months of a school year. But rooms are not what make up a dormitory-people are . . . People called students . . . students in dorm life. Dorm life means moments of antici- pation before meeting new roommates, friends and acquaintancesg it means moments of adjustment toward room- mates and rules, it means moments of sharing-thoughts, feelings . . . our- selvesg it means moments of meditation and prayer when, together, our thoughts are drawn to- our Saviour. It means moments of concern when we see our fellow students troubled and anxious. It means moments of excitement when we gather for parties and popcorn, for laughter and song. It means moments of noise and confusion as students relax after study and concentration. It means moments of imaginary quietness as stu- dents read, write, type and think. And it means moments of hushed quietness when the last window becomes dark, and the dormitory sleeps. :ECU l .4 -Q- --K 42 Q' 3? , P H-,f if' ' ' :QW . ' 1 -N-. ...,,,.Xf-ugaae. R-XFN 5. Some find jobs on campus in cleaning, maintenance, cafe- teria or offices, which others go out to banks, stores, hospitals, or warehouses for afternoon employment. And so, throughout the week on the buses and at the job, students have the op- portunity to meet other people and gain new experiences that cannot be found in regular campus life.
