The size has been increased by 50%, some four-color pictures have been added, and the number of con¬ tributors has doubled. The new name hopefully preludes further maturity of this volume and future ones. ELP DOS, a Greek word meaning “of hope, " represents a Christian atti¬ tude which should pervade our lives and creative output. The despon¬ dency, isolation, and insecurity of modern literature and art forms should not be characterisitic of our media of communication. We see hope here and ahead in the person of Christ. ELP DOS is not just a product; it is a potential. This potential f ound within our school should develop over the years as one develops his mind. 1. Staff members meet to evaluate contributions. 2, Editor of Elpidos: Karen Thomas. COMFORT Lord, at times I want so much to cry; When I ' m lonely, lost and cold. Or when life doesn ' t bow to my every whim, When I ' ve lost my head and said too much, Or too little; When I look at my blundering being in shame And say, " You fool. " How it comforts me to know That you never think me so; And how I need you every moment To help me up when I begin to sink To understand when I want to cry. —Barb McClellan 40 fif , A ' ir ' iv WA N-i L 99
