DEDICATIGNS 5' ' Q. of G. Heberton Evans III died peacefully on 12 February, 1985 at the age of fifty-eight. He had been a teacher, coach, dormitory master, and friend at GDA for thirty-three years. It is hard to convey an effective portrait of this man, whose tangible accomplishments were formidable, with his four published books, vast number of athletic wins, and excel- lence as a teacher. But more important than these was his ability as a leader. I'll never forget hearing the players on his teams saying how they played, and when possible won, for Heb , more than themselves, the school, or anything else. He was the kind of leader one wanted to please. One wanted to please him not out of fear, but out of devotion. This is the mark of a great leader. GEORGE I-IEBERTO Don't be dismayed at good- byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends. - R. Bach

ik ailf P CHARLES Here comes the sun, to chase the ghouls away. It comes out in phases. Will it come out to stay? It shines so brightly, bringing life to the day But they all are numbered and who is to say? What comes tomorrow? Who has to pay? He knows the game and he knows how to play. But something won't let him: in bed he must lay. I-Ie keeps it inside, but it seeps out in a way. His eyes tell the truth while all else leads astray. The balloon floats high as waves roll in from the bay. The sun is still shining as the disc drops for delay. Make the most of it now. Don't wait for that day, When the clouds come back and the sun goes away. . ... Court Heiss, an eighteen- If year-old Governor Dummer Senior, died on December fourth, 1984. In july of 1983 he had been stricken with a rare blood disease in his bone marrow that affected his blood production. The only treatment for him were weekly blood transfusions and heavy doses of anti-biotics and vitamins to battle the infections to which he was extremely susceptible. Doctors could not identify his disease, so the treatments he received were only guesses and experiments. After a year and a half, this disease developed into leukemia and killed him. -ds W f,,,.'.f .J A -sr! EDWARD 1-IEISS, JR. Peter Condon, '85 Court once said Those who are not busy being born are busy dying. Perhaps he was trying to tell us that in living, we shou1dn't just live. We should use each day to learn and experience, and to really get something out of life. This is true living. And those who are not living, well, their spirit is dying. And, as Peter Condon alluded to in his poem on this page, we should not put off living until it is too late. 3
