This year, more than in years past, the Governor Dummer students were working in and with the com- munity. Not only did student interest in the community increase this year, but also inter- est inthe school itself increased. This year the Debating Club, dead for many years, was resurrected on student interest alone, and will now probably be around for many years to come. li .NY Q

This year good old Lang Gymnasium became brand new Schu- mann Science Center. The new building allowed the Governor Dummer Science De- partment to operate much more in a college preparatory manner. Instead of science class- es meeting five times a week with two double period sessions, they now mel an average of four times a week for lectures, with labs on Wednesdays or any other free periods which the student might have during the week. In this manner the burden of a double period was relieved from the backs of both student and teacher without sacrificing the course. 4' l

There is one incident which clearly shows the unity which had developed this year at Governor Dummer and which illustrates the interest which the student body had in pre- serving the school itself. Early in spring, when everyone is just beginning to enjoy the good weather, the Student Government deliv- ered a message to the student body from the faculty. The basic theme was this: The faculty believed the students were taking the rules of the school much too lightly. That alcohol and other drugs were being used much too bla- tantly by the students and that this blatant- ness was jepordizing the student-faculty rela- tionship which had developed so tremendous- ly over the year.
