Captain John Haydon found it difficult to adjust to the change from third base to shortstop, his hitting was affected, unfortunately. Haydon was unable to hit over three hundred as he had done the year before. Senior Brian Merry, sophomore Winston Burt, and freshman John Schaefer played first, second, and third, respectively. The catcher was Ralph Sexton. With four returning lettermen and Ted Caldwell, the team should improve on its .153 batting average and its dismal seasonal record. Experience will be a deciding fac- tor in next year's success. XXI

Although the Governor Dummcr Track team was not unde- feated, as in the past few years. the season was very successful. There was a constant pressure on each member of the team to do his best. The Governors spirit showed itself in the first meet of the season as the Red defeated the MIT Freshmen, and set three track records. Co-captain Jay Allen, Steve Uhl, and David Fuess brought the team its only first in the Exeter Relays the following weekend. but the team showed reasonable strength by placing in nine ofthe fourteen events. The loss to Moses Brown on April 19. ended a twenty-one meet winning streak. However. tri-captain-elect Charlie Estes set a new record in the two mile run and Allen set records in the shot and the discus.
