Captain John Haydon found it difficult to adjust to the change from third base to shortstop, his hitting was affected, unfortunately. Haydon was unable to hit over three hundred as he had done the year before. Senior Brian Merry, sophomore Winston Burt, and freshman John Schaefer played first, second, and third, respectively. The catcher was Ralph Sexton. With four returning lettermen and Ted Caldwell, the team should improve on its .153 batting average and its dismal seasonal record. Experience will be a deciding fac- tor in next year's success. XXI

Perhaps the only good aspeet of the season was the consistently excellent pitching of the team's most valuable player. Ted Caldwell. A5 the eaptain-elert. Caldwell won only three and lost eight: however. his ERA was an exeep- tional 2.19. His best performam-e eame against Roxbury Latin when he struek out twenty-six opposing batters in seventeen innings.
