BAND School spurut and a school band are unseparable What would a foot ball game be luke wuthout the band decked nn thexr snappy maroon and grey unuforms7 Peppy musuc and orngmal performances durmg the games and at half tame entertained shuverung football auduences last fall Wouldn t a basketball game seem dull If the blare of horns dndn t mflate the audu tonum9 A small pep band provlded tunes an which the audience partlcupated with yells The band made a spectacular showing at the Ak Sar Ben Marching Contest In Omaha October 7 8 1950 An Exce' ent ratmg was awarded the band at this event Memorues of the amateur photographers on the bus Leprosy and the stay at the Hotel Paxton cause band members to chuckle remmlscently Vlsuts to Joselyn Memorlal and Boys Town clnmaxed the weekend ,aunt The following Saturday October 14 partlclpatnon In the Harvest of Harmony Marching Contest In Grand Island brought the band another Excellent ratmg Janet Schruver was Gothenburgs candudate for the Harvest of Harmony Queen Gothenburg was represented at the All State Muslc Cllnlc In Scotts bluff November 16 17 and 18 1950 by Marilyn Chrlstensen oboe and Elaune Broadbent clarunet All tastes were pleased at the wmter band concert January 29 1951 by the playung of classucal sem: classical and popular selections Student solousts were the mam attractuon on the sprung concert May 7 1951 Members of the band partucupated In the District IV Music Contest April 14 15 1950 at Hastmgs Ten Superior ratings and three Excellent ratungs were brought home by these students North Platte was the host to the Dlstrnct IV Musuc Contest Aprnl 13 14 1951 The guudsng lught to all these actnvltles was Laddle Lysmger whose easy gonng manner frequent pep talks and wntty remarks have endeared hum to all our hearts Thus year as before the band was a product of mterest and hard work And despite the fun or maybe because of nt the folks all learned somethung about musuc Kit J'
