'lhey illjd the social and emotional dimensions to the strtiggle to learn and ear11 grades. We could prob11bly get along without ot1r friends. but school wouldn't be nearly L15 fun or reward- ing. Do you know what it's like to be lonely. wl1e11 it seems you haven't Ll friend in the world? The only way' to have ll friend is to be o11e. friends are presents you give yourself: people w ho k11ow 11ll about you. and still like you: people with whom you dare to be you. Ren1ember. friendship can be pur- chased only by friendship. It should not be based o11 111atcrial things. or what society dee111s to be acceptable. Friendship should. however. be based on ll mutual respect for one another that you have developed throughout your relationship. Friends are those who. w l1e11 yot1've made L1 fool of yourself. don't feel that youve done Z1 permanent job. Friends are made by many 11cts. but may be lost by only one. Neither distance nor time should affect a real friendship. There is no hesitation on ll friends part when you ask for help. and L1 friend will never expect Ll reward because someday. he or she knows that they w ill rely on you.
