GIRLS' CHORUS Do Me Sol Do--A visitor dropping into the gym around ten, 0' clock any morning would find the chorus tuning their voices.. Al- though a voice cannot bef tuned like an instrument, by listening to yourself sing your voice- can be brought up to pitch as well as an instrument. Some of the most beautiful music is made by women's voices. Certainly this chorus has not contradicted that state-+ ment. If anything they have strengthened it. The school may-well be proud of their Girls' Chorus. The chorus is .planning to enter the district contest this spring, they have every hope of receiving high recognition there. The Chorus has sung at several public meetings already this year, twice at P. T. A. meetings and also at the Pep Club Amateur Show. Ten of the members of chorus attended the chor- al clinic at Carbondale. This clinic is held annually at the Shryock Auditorium. This year the guest conductor was Dr. Olaf Christiansen, who is one of the greatest conductors to be found anywhere. With his brother Neil Kjos he was founder of the St. Olaf College of music -----Sonia Rednour BAND The Band this year is conducted more like a class than ever before. Since most of the members of band are beginners, the text- book, Easy Steps to the Band , is very useful. In the beginning the selections are very simple, and as the students become more ad- vanced in the playing bf their instruments, the music becomes harder. In addition to this, the band is practicing on some numbers that are to be played at the district contest. Already this year the band has played for the carnival, basket- ball games, and the senior playQ On April 18, together With the other music classes, the band is going to do its part to make the annual spring concert a success. It has been a long time since the band has gone to the District Contest. This year they are going to try their luck at this contest. Every thing will not depend on the luck because every member in the band is practicing every spare minute he can to improve his technique. On April 19, when the contest is held, they are sure the judges will place the G.C H S band in the first division. ----Sonia Rednour
