H ONE EC. DEPT. Our Home Economies I class the third and fourth hours started out with twenty-one Freshman and Sophomore girls. First, we studied personal appearance and personality in which We learned how to look nice as well as how to act correctly in any situation. In our clothing unit the fol- lowing ten weeks, each girl made a cotton house dress. The unit that proved to be the most fun was our Christmas unit. The girls made gifts for Christmas to help reduce the cost of Christmas shopping. Some very nice head scarfs,pot hold ers, home-made candies, aprons, stuffed toys, and articles of clothing were made and given as gifts C iust ask Miss Slechtickyf. The Home Economics I, in their last unit of this year are learning the basic fundamentals of simple meal planning and preparation. When this unit is complete, they will be able to make biseuits,pie crusts, sandviches, if, waffles, pop ov rs, muffins, and breakfast cereals. The planning of meals for a daily balanced diet is the point of greatest emphasis in this unit. The Home Economics II class of the first :nd second hour started out with sixteen girls and ended up with four- teen while the seventh and eighth hovr Home Economics II started vith eighteen and new have sixteen. These two classes have covered the same units and assignments. The year's work started out with ten Weeks advanced work in meal planning and meal preparation. These classes also enjoyed a Christmas unit similar to the one the first- year girls had. A UPlay Seheolu for children from 2-5 years old was planned and vfry much enjoyed by both the girls and the Children whg Qpmg daily. The daily attendance of these children averaged around fifteen. Our room was equipped with sand box, chairs, tables, crayons end booms, and toys to suit the sizes and ages of these little guests.We feel this unit proved to be an outstanding one due to its great success. The lest unit of the year for Home Economics II stu- h d dents was their sewing unit. Dresses were c osen an, con- structed for Church rear. A variety of very attractive and eppropriate spring materials and patterns w re select- ed for this project. In our room we have Home Economics hostesses for each wuerter of the year in eech class. -These girls volunteer for the task each quarter.
