SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Il is a stormy, forbidding evening. Seeking something lo pass the lime. I wander over to my bookcase and begin poring over tny meager stock of books. My attention is attracted by a bit of bright blue altnost hidden on the lop shelf. Standing on tiptoe. I pull it down and blow oll' a ten years' collection of dust. Trojan-I9-l7. Ah! What memories that brings back. Funny, I hadn't opened it since I graduated from good old G. H. S. Sinking into the nearest chair. I adjust my spectacles and slowly turn the pages. Suddenly I halt and focus my gaze upon a picture of a tall girl brandishing a basketball as if it were a sword. ESTER ANGLIN. Now she has a basketball team of her own. They travel around the country. win- ning game after game. Speaking of sports. GRADY .IACKSON is now playing football for Yale. Relnctantly I continue turning the pages. Next are the basketball boys. Why. there's CHARLES MCCOIN. I haven't seen him in years. I hear he's in Hollywood now. No, not a movie star-a telegraph boy for VVestern Union. On the next page was a snappy snapshot of BILL VICK. He certainly picked a fitting profession, He's a barber and has become quite adept in fashioning men's hairdos. Gosh! Here's a couple of sad-looking characters. KEN- NETH JENSEN and ED KIENKINS. Kenneth is now a very successful engineer, and, believe it or not, his voice doesn't squeak any more. Ed did quite well for himself. He started off as a hobo. wandered down into Georgia, and grabbed himself a little governorship. And speaking of Georgia. I see a picture of her-GEORGIA HOWELL, that is. I hear Georgia every night. She's working at radio station WKDA on a program called Nightwatch- man. I think she's employed to entertain the announc- ers. Next is a character whom I recognize itnmediately. SLAYDEN MURPHREE. I sleep through his sermon every Sunday in church. W'eII. whatta ya know! Here's DORIS GALBREATH. A-a-a-achoo! Every titne I see her I think of those flowers I bought from her florist shop and it gives me hay fever. Ah ha! Here's KATH- RYN FREEMAN. I haven't seen her for some time. She spends all her spare titne in Springfield. But I read her column, Advice by Helpful Hannah, every day in the lianncr. The face of MARTHA DALE was the next familiar one upon which my eyes fell, and it was easy to recognize. You see, Martha models clothes for Vogue. I was offered a modeling job once. They wanted me for the before in an advertisement. Most prominent among the pictures of the annual stall' is the face of LUCILE PARRISH. And why not? She cas well as the rest of the stafll certainly worked hard enough getting this old annual Olll. I saw Lucile just the other day. She works for Eastern Air lines. I QHAZEL HUDGINS, that's mel bought a plane ticket to Florida from her. I was going to Florida on a business trip for my chewing gum fac- tory. Business is bubbling these days. Slowly I turn the page and am confronted by a picture of BETTY HILL. I saw her recently. and no one would recognize her. She continued reducing until she had a shape like EVELYN YOUNG. and now she is a professional jitterbug. At last she's realized her life ambition. And speaking of Evelyn. guess what she's doing. Right! Exactly nothing. She's still footloose and fancy free, much to the chagrin of TWO-INCH MOORE, who, incidentally. is a basket- ball referee. I hear he's going to referee the tournament at Isaac Littott this year. By the way. Litton has claimed one of our old alumnae. DOROTHY POLK is teaching home economics there. Principal Fudge says she's the best teacher he's ever had fof course, she's his wifell. Well, well, here's a picture of REBA BOWLING. I'd better get out of the way. I had an accident not so long ago. I was hit by a milk truck which had Reba at the wheel. I was taken to the hospital, and the first thing I saw upon awakening was BILLIE LEE CARR. She was my nurse. Boy, do I feel bad! Next is a picture of I-IERMAN COLEMAN. I listen to his radio progratn. Coleman and His Rugged Mountain Men. every week. And his featured vocalists are notre other than DOROTHY MORRIS and W. HERSCHEL MOORE. Well, here's an- other of my old graduating class. LESTRENE SEALS. She's now running the grocery store at Neely's Bend. BILLY ROBERTS is looking very military on the next page. I suppose he's practicing for his career. He's now a colonel in the United States Army. Continuing onward, I now come upon PAULINE SLOAN. She seems pretty satisfied these days. She's operating a nursery. No, not flowers and shrubs-babies! And here's VIR- GINIA PHELAN. She made history recently. After trying for years and years: she's finally caught her man after someone lent her a bear trap. And I want my trap back, too. H-m-m-in-m-m. Here's RICHARD HARRIS' picture. I've been wanting to see him. That new car I bought from him has suddenly developed several unusual knocks. When I went into his oflice to sign the bill for the car, I was startled to see his secretary. It was ARLEIN MCMAHON. And, lo and behold, here's UIEAN LASSITER. I haven't seen her for years. lt seems to me she married some fellow named McMahon and moved to Vlfashington. Nearing the end of the book. I tiirn the pages more slowly. Why, there's SUE EDWARDS. I see her quite frequently. That is. unless she sees me first. Sue's working for the Te11nessc1uz. She is a reporter who really gets around. Right beside Site was a picture of ANGELA WOOD. The last time I saw her was under tragic circumstances. She had just been hurt. She was hurrying some place. was late, as usual, and can right out in front of an ambulance. She was always lucky that way. The ambulance was driven by CARL HUNT. who immediately loaded her in and took her to the hospital where she, too. was nursed by BILLIE CARR. She's in a good condition-as good as could be expected. And last, but not least. is DORIS AIEAN DUNCAN. She's now playing basketball for the Goldblume team. And quite good, too. Golly, look! The sun's out and I've wasted an hour in reminiscing. But I don't guess it was really wasted. I had some swell friends at Goodlettsville High School. and an hour spent in remembering them is certainly worth while. HAZEL HUDGINS.
