Q -f In September of l9Ml we were enrolled in the fourth grade Miss McGraw was our teacher we learned to divide and Miss McGraw also helped us with our art we drew many pictures and we also learned how to carve figures out of soap Treading Hupstairsn we entered Mr Miles' fifth grade room We learned the more complicated phases of arithmetic and studied geography e also had a reading and spelling chart Whenever we read a book or got 'lOO' on our spelling papers a blue block was put after our names We played baseball thls year inste d of playing on the swings and merry go round The following fall found us in the sixth grade Miss Verrill was our teacher this year Everybody worked hard to have h1s name at the top of an arithmetic contest At the end of the term we had a class party we were halfway to our destination After a seemingly short summer we returned to school as sevewth graders We had our own Junior High Assembly This year there were no recesses Mr Smith was assigned the task of belng our sponsor In the early autumn of 1945 we entered the eighth grade This year we were given seats in the nbig assemblyn We were al most like Freshmen, but not quite We held a class party in the school cafeteria room We brought donuts and cokes and danced At last in the fall of 1946 we, a group of thirty, were enroll ed as Freshmen' We elected for our class officers the followlng President Ruth Reuter, Vice President, Brad Perkinson, Secretar Beverly S utesman, Treasurer, Joyce Cox We had a Christmas party for which we drew names In the last semester Helen Bower returned to us from Brookston we returned the next fall a step higher on our ladder to our destination We elected for our class officers President, Brad Perkinson, Vice President, Helen Bower, Secretar Ruth Reuter, Treasurer, Allen Troup Several of the boys were on the second team basket ball squad Marcelyn Dorton and Dorothy Souligne were elected our school yell leaders Just a while after school started we chose our class colors navy blue and grey We then ordered our class sweaters We were very proud of them because they were different from those of anyone else at G H S Just after we received our sweaters, we lost our President, Brad Perkinson, to Onarga, Ill Helen Bower took over his duties We started making plans for a Senior trip We had a bake sale, sold magazine subscriptions and had a dance Fall, 1948, rolled quickly around and the nclass of 'SO' were Juniors We were slowly reaching the top of the ladder and Mrs . W . I I ' to records. . G I I A 0 s Fix was given the Job of sponsor to help us We elected the following for our class officers President, Donald Graham, Vice President, George Cox, Secretary, Joan Ripley, Treasurer, Joyce Cox During the year Dick French retired from our class to join the ranks of the United States Marines Just shortly before the end of the year Marcelyn Dorton left us to enter matrimony we began a series of activities by ordering our class rings barely two weeks after school had begun In October we began work on our class play, THE DOUBLE DOOR, which we presented on November 18th Quite coincidentally our class rings arrived the same day Besides giving our play we sponsored a dance after the Brook basket ball game with the NFour Hitsn supplying the music Also we sponsored bake sales and paper drives Our biggest task was preparing for the prom We chose nThe Stars Will Rememberu for our theme We carried the decorating colors into the class colors The gym was beautifully decorated with palm trees, a starry sky, rock gardens and pickett fence with the NSatisfiersN from Frankfort furnishing the music, we gave our prom April 29, 1914-9 reached the top rung on its ladder Eagerly we took the coveted seats in the Senior row At our first class meeting we elected the following class officers President, George Cox, Vice President, Allen Troup, Secretary, Ruth Reuter, Treasurer, Joyce Cox The graduating class consisted of the following Helen Bower Doris Hoaks Dorothy Budreau David Messersmith Fay Burton Donald Proud Joe Burton Bonnie Reid Nancy Cooke Ruth Reuter George Cox Joan Ripley Joyce Cox Phyllis Ropp Mary Crowe Dorothy Souligne Mary Cudworth Ernest Spurlock Margaret Donovan Beverly Stutesman Donald Graham Allen Troup Herbert Winger First we started to work on our annual Dave Messersmith was elected Editor In Chief During the last of September we ordered our announcements, and later Mr Norris measured us for our caps and gowns We realized then that we were really 1n our last year we sponsored a food stand at the Community Halloween Party, a bake sale and a dance after the Kentland basketball game Among other things that we undertook to earn money was to sell Trojan Fall, 1949, quickly came into view as the Nclass of NEON Zl4a4?'w,64ecq It was a bright, sunny day in the 21st century that the newly formed club 'The Rovin' Rascals,n set out to explore Cory's Cre k After tramp ng all afternoon the tired boys set down to rest and munch on their apples Suddenly an eerie atmosphere descended upon the small group Dark clouds formed in the heavens and the wind commenced blowing, the trees were bent into grotesque figures The children scam pered to the nearest shelter, the thlck foliage which surrounded the gloomy and ghastly cemetery There was a terrifylng roar as if the heavens and earth had split open A streak of lightning cut across the sky and the earth trembled Before the astonished eyes of the children a grave opened and a tall white figure arose In a deep voice he announced, NI am George Cox, president of the senior class of l95O The meetlng will now come to order N Silently 22 forms arose and took their seats upon thelr headstones HThe secretary will re d the minutes of the last meeti g 'The last meetlng of the class of 1950 was a reunion he July 15, 1970 George Cox, who is president of Stephen's College for girl's, tore himself away from his school activities and pupils to attend and preside over this gathering, but he left early Also present was our vice president, Allen Troup, who is now the outstanding veterinary of Newton County. He had to leave a very fetching patient behind Ca brown-eyed cowl. With Allen was his wife, Joan Ripley Troup. It seems Joan has a hard time keep- ing the house clean with all of the patients wandering about. Ruth Reuter Cclass-secretary? is now a Professor of English and is an Instructor of Phys. Ed. Ruth's latest book is Ugg! To EEepdThe Husband from Wandering Her theory is to beat him o e raw.
