Back ROW: Mrs. Lang, Kenneth Megaw, Marilyn Carter, Janice Carlson, Neva Doss. Senior Social Activities One important event that happened during our sen- ior year was our trip through the 'State Capitol, which we took on Feb-ruary 15th. We found the ilnterzior very beauti- ful, especially the chandelier in the dome, Wlhieh was made of blue Austrian beads strung on German wire. It was seven feet tall and six feet wide, and large enough to hold more than one man. The staircases were made of pure marble, and the pillars, also made of marble, weighed vbetwfe-en six and eigrht tons eaoh. Another 'interesting thing We learned was that some of the materials in the building came from Mankato. We visited the state legislature and the Supreme Court, the offices of the governor and the Historioal eburild- ing. Our senator, Val Imm and, our two representatives, Arthur Ogle and Roy Schulz welcomed us. Our trip to the State Hospital in St. Peter was also intlerrelstinlg. There we learned about patients and the many types of treatment used to help them get wlell. One of the most enjoyable events was the junior- senfior banquet on May 5th, The juniors treated us to a very delioious dinner at the Burton hotel and afterwards we all enjoyed the movie, The Long Gray Liine, wlhlilch was about West Point. Mast, but not least, we seniors planned our two-day trip to the cities, which we took on May 12 and 13. The-re We visited many of the large factories and also Radsio City. The 12th was Carol Besehneftt's birthday and the 13th was Mary Morell'-s, so we all had a very enjoyable time. We seniors enjoyed every minute of our four years of high school together and it will always be remembered by everyone in our .elas-sf. We all hope the under-classmen have as enjoyable la time as we did. The SOIDHGMQIQE CLASS Standing, John Thiede. Q .- CLASS H ISTO IQY IN SEPTEMBER, 1951 twenty green freshmen began their first exciting year of high school. Of these, ten were boys and ten were -girls. Th-ings got off to la good start with initiation. The girls will remember the upside-dewfn skirts we had to Wear along with the b8JOklWRJI'1d shirts and hip boots. It took folnever to get on the bus that mofrning, beoause the steps were a little too high for the upside-down skirts. 'Dhe bovys were dressed in gunny sack dmesses and wore high heeled shoes. After arriving we had to kne-elat the feet of ealeh sophomore, .saying a poem in praise, that went something like this: "Roses are red, violets are blue, sophomores are nice and we like you, too." About a month later, at our return party, we gave the sephornores a few things to do as a means for revenge. THE FRESHMAN YEAR went fast and soon WP were sophomores. We lest one member, John Deling, so we were th-en a class of nineteen. It was new our turn to in- itiate the new freshmen. I'm sure most of us were rather proud to lose the name of "little green freshmen". CLASS I-I ISIC IQV In what seefmeo only a short While we were JUNIORS. During our junior year We losft itwfo more memlbers of our class, Marion Shonyo and Charles Wood. Thad: fall We had to sellelot a play to present. Naltunrially, there were disva- greeinentsi, but we came up with the final decision to pre- sent "You Canlt Kiss Carol'ine',. Then ICEUITIIG rehearlsals and soon the big evenings arrsivedi. Even thlouigh We were new at such things and a little afraid, everything Went off fine. That year We also had to plan for the junior-lsleindor banquet. We entertained the seniors, along with the mem- bers of the faculty, their husaloands and Wives, at the Ice Eollies. We -had our ,banquet at the Hasty Tasty in Minne- apvoliis. In our SENIOR year We have been busy planning for grad- uation. We have seleoted our motto, class flower and our class eolors. We also ch-o-se the play, "Father Knows Best". As seniors, we shall reach the goal for which we have been -striving, our diplomas. There are inainy Lthingis We shall misrsg sueh as the Christmlas prograinsi, spring concerts, and mluusiic festivals. Most of all We shall miss the Wonder- ful friends vve have made in the past four years, not only our fellow lsehoolmatels, but the teachers who have given us guidance and help. Mr. Medalen, our -siuperintelnolemt, has especially helped us. He is our class adlvisor and has been our lgufiidie in planning the many activities of our senior year. We will soon loe leavfifng, but the memory of our high sehool days wvlill never be forgotten. fl!-Ill lll-D V'U'VVVYVVV'VVYVVYVVYVVVVVYVUVVYUVVVVV 11 --: alum-se ---9 H' -Ile 35' A .ll 'E 2:2 2 -- --- 1 :iff i""',f1L,',1,.fj',igg F122 :55:5igi5E5E53355E5:::31,::::: 1 :::3i5EgE55a1ErErE:Er:-:r11:.. , ,,,.::3:3:5:::g:,:5'5:3:5:5:5:5:5:5:5 13 .11 1g,:f.z- -Vg: - -A :-Q:-P ............. ..,. 1 -:-1:-:-:-za-:-:a-:-:-:W-:M:::.-.- -. 5 - :-: --:f-1---f------1+.w-:-: --4-------,4- - -- M -. - , 1 1' X f . lg. y ff W- :3:g:5:gs:1:rs:e22fs:ag:g:1i1:r:2sir:r:r 5: I1 31522 ErE:E:E1E:E?:E:E:1: -:21:22:I:Iss:si:2:rzfir:f3:r:6i::2m::ggs:g?iNsS:w-' 'E1:rEr:rE1ErEZ1E'ErE riririlri-3352-rf' 221151--f 1115232121 2:1:V .1 '- 6'9" . 5::,::: 5E5iE EE5E5E5E ,5E5:5:5'5:5::15:5: 52535251525555E535E5E,.gE5E:ErErErE'-rEr:-0:23.-,II -Eli Eriiirrzrf-...':2. The news staff, under the direction of Mrs. Ling, 'changed the style and vmiakeurp -of the high school and grade news. Each 'class elected one or more reporters. This group gathered ne-w s tharouighout :high school and the grades. Rather than ,presentinig the news by classes, as has been do-ne in- previous years, the freeport-ers are given assigns ments and -bring in their -news -stories to 'be edilt-ed by the editorial .staflf each Monday This elviminated over-lappinig "and srepiitition. Reorganizing our news in this way has given us ia better news coverage of school events. This plan also gives report- ers actual experience in the writing -of news stories and articles.. It tends to igiv e variety in coverage and do away with the replitition from week to wvieek ost' school de- partments in some papers. Some fe-artiures, however, that proved of interest in the past years' such as Clhatter- 1boX, Mystery Character and Senior Biography, were re- tained. o NEWS STAFF Staff Editor Rita Hawker Assistant Editors Carol Beschnreltt Janice Prange Anne Gnfadke Jack Kienitr A Reporters Jlanice Carlson Marilyn Carter Corrine Hiller Janice Kaul Advisor Mrs. David Ling o Z., 'Z . f f M i" ' kigkm -3:-:.1,,.:.,.... wi' ' Y .V S - - 1.
