The Gonzales Chapter No. 5, Future Farmers oi America, has made a iine showing this year, not only in its daily practical work, but also at dances and other social gatherings, the tall bar- beque, Barn Dance, and Valentine Dance. Dick Gularte, a very active member, represented the F.F.A. at the Regional Speaking Contest held at Salinas this year. Dick was also a representa- tive, along with Wade Hammond, at the State FFA. convention held at Cal Poly in San Luis Cbispo. There Dick Gularte and lackie Nunes were presented their hard-earned State Farmers Awards. Dick was elected vice-president of the Fourth Coast Region. F The chapter earned the Master Chapter Award again following a very long year oi hard work. It is the chapters aim tor as many members as possible to have livestock entered in the local iairs which are held each year. A large per- centage oi the boys entered livestock at both the King City iair and the Monterey iair, bringing home many blue ribbons. We entered a judging contest in King City, and had a championship basketball team. Our advisors, Mr. Tibbets and Mr. Taylor, have spent a great deal oi time and eiiort to add great honor and reputation to our club. This year under a new advisor, Mrs. lrvine, and its officers, the club got oil to a wonderful start. One oi the main events was the Girls' League Conference, which was held in Watsoiiville dur- ing the month ol October. Many of the more interested girls attended, and all had a very en- joyable time. Dr. Evelyn Berger, a consulting psychologist from Oakland, was their main speaker. Her topic was Minor Cuts and Bruisesf' Other activities included a Halloween party and a Christmas party both held in the high school gym. A Mother-Daughter Banquet was given in March. All the girls worked very hard to make it the success it was. Their annual beach party was held at Pacific Grove on May 27. Candy and cake sales were staged quite ire- auently during the year, which helped to in- crease the income. All in all this has turned out to be a very successful year for the Girls' League organiza- tion. IDA RUBBO EVELYN CACCIA PEGGY SHANKS President Vice-President Secretary I 1 ' 1 s 15 1 ,Q im 8:9

IOHN NUNES ALFRED DOMINGUEZ THOMAS AGUINID President Vice-President Secretary BUYS' Bl0CI'l G The boys' Block an organization for pro- moting better' sportsmanship and friendly com- petition among the boys, is one of the leading and most active clubs in the school. lt is made up of boys who have made either a lightweight or heavyweight block in one of the four sports: football, basketball, track and baseball. The activities of the club started with the Fresh- man-Sophomore tie-up, which is the Freshman initiation. This was followed later by a night dance. The boys sponsored a movie in the early fall. ln the first semester the new football lettermen were initiated in the gymnasium, and it proved to be very amusing. The basketball lettermen will be initiated with the track and baseball lettermen. At the end of the year, the annual boys' Block G barbecue was held. This usually uses up all of the money the boys earned during the year. The club this year will lose many of its active members by graduation.
